Diabetes is becoming an extremely common disease with almost one-thirds of the world’s population suffering from this problem. They also determine the level of sugar in your blood so that it becomes easy for the doctor to understand the extent of the disease you are currently suffering from and prescribe the medicines and the correct doses for you.
The most common test to check whether you are suffering from diabetes is the fasting blood glucose test.
This is the reason why this test is generally done early in the morning and the patient is advised to eat his dinner early on the previous night. The oral glucose tolerance test is another simple test to determine whether a patient has diabetes or not.
This is one of the best tests to be sure that the patient is diabetic or not and can be done in any medical center or even in your doctor’s chamber. This kind of a test does not record the level of blood sugar in your body on the day the test is performed.
This kind of a test should be generally done every 6 months to keep a proper check of the disease and also determine if you are suffering from it in the first place. The first thing that occurred to me when I got my blood test results was that both my father and uncle (his brother) developed adult-onset diabetes, which is called “Type 2 Diabetes”.
I always thought that they both contracted that disease in their 60s because they ate crap, were overweight and didn’t exercise, but now I’m wondering if they had a genetic predisposition to type 2 diabetes and therefore would have gotten it even if they ate and exercised…ahh… well… like me?
As the video in “My Blood Sugar Numbers” describes, I borrowed my sister’s glucometer and began testing my blood.
In addition to the favorable post meal blood glucose numbers, I have another blood measurement marker that’s in my favor.
Hemoglobin A1(c) is expressed in percentage terms because it’s measuring the percentage of hemoglobin that’s bonded to sugar. In subsequent posts, I’ll report about some other unhappy blood result I got in my last Life Extension test, such has high VLDL, Pattern B LDL Density Pattern, high inflammation markers and low thyroid indications. You're gonna get (1) the Newsletter, (2) the four-part guide, Transform Your Body and Mind, and (3) the 12 Ageproof Biohacks. This is a serious condition characterized by higher-than-normal blood sugar levels that is not yet classified officially as diabetes.
I was diagnosed two years ago, just a few weeks before my wedding (I guess right around now. After our honeymoon, I was mostly compliant with my doctor’s orders and tried to take my medication everyday. Research has also shown that if you take action to manage your blood glucose when you have pre-diabetes, you can delay or prevent type 2 diabetes from ever developing.
There is a lot you can do yourself to know your risks for pre-diabetes and to take action to prevent diabetes if you have, or are at risk for, pre-diabetes. The good news is that the people with pre-diabetes can prevent the development of type 2 diabetes by making changes in their diet and increasing their level of physical activity. Choose liquid oils for cooking instead of solid fats that can be high in saturated andA transA fats.
Cut back on high calorie snack foods and desserts like chips, cookies, cakes, and full-fat ice cream. Aerobic exercise increases your heart rate, works your muscles, and raises your breathing rate. Strength training, done several times a week, helps build strong bones and muscles and makes everyday chores like carrying groceries easier for you. Flexibility exercises, also called stretching, help keep your joints flexible and reduce your chances of injury during other activities. In addition to formal exercise, there are many opportunities to be active throughout the day.
If you doubt the fact that you are suffering from diabetes but are not sure of it, you can get certain tests done which determine the fact whether you have diabetes or not. You can get these tests done at any medical testing center and get the results in a few days.
In this test, the patient is required to fast or not eat anything at all for a minimum of 12 to 14 hours before the test is done. In this test, the patient does not need to do any type of fasting as the level of glucose in his blood is checked at any random time of the day. The average blood sugar in your body in the last 2 to 3 months is measured to check whether the level of blood glucose has stayed within recommended limits or exceeded it. The patient does not need to fast for this kind of a test or make any preparations beforehand. I’ve been testing fasting blood glucose, and one and two hour post meal, the detailed results of which I’ll share in a future post. This measures how much glucose permanently gets glycated (bonded) to hemoglobin in red blood cells. I'm a big believer in sustainability, and am a bit nutty about optimizing my diet, supplements, hormones and exercise. Alcohol and snacking (assuming the snacks are high glycemic) will boost blood sugar and over time that could cause insulin resistance.
Prediabetes almost always precedes type 2 diabetes, which is the most common form of diabetes. Happy prediabetes diagnosis anniversary to me.) I was prescribed Metformin and warned that it might cause weight gain.
At the time, I a fit twenty-six-year-old who was no stranger to the gym and an active lifestyle. According to a press release from the NYC Department of Health, the highest percentage of prediabetes in 2004 was within the Asian population.

Only water can be consumed in these 12 hours of fasting, all other types of beverages should be strictly avoided.
After the patient consumes the drink, his blood sample is taken at regular intervals in the next two hours and it is checked for the level of glucose that it contains.
This measurement roughly indicates your average blood sugar over the previous three months, and the higher it has been over the past three months, the more likely it is that glucose (sugar) is permanently bonded to hemoglobin, which is not a good thing. He reports that it’s not uncommon for people on restricted carbohydrate diets (like me) to have high fasting glucose serum numbers. If you legitimately are on a low-carb diet and both the post meal and A1(c) numbers are good, then it could be that your situation is accurately described by Chris’ explanation quoted above. I still ate copious amounts of mochi ice cream, watermelon paletas, and carbs, carbs, carbs. I hope by taking my blog in this new direction, I can encourage people in similar situations. Metformin has also been criticized as a way of enabling a destructive lifestyle because it helps you lose weight.
