The new blood sugar meter would use infrared laser light directed on top of the skin to measure sugar levels in the fluid in and below skin cells. Their goal with this research, says Mantele, is to develop a method of testing that is cheaper, easier and more reliable.
This process works in measuring blood sugar levels, he says, because skin cell glucose levels can be closely correlated with blood glucose levels.   This allows the skin glucose measurement to be used as a proxy for more invasive blood sugar testing. The new blood sugar testing method is discussed in a Review of  Scientific Instruments article which was published on October 25, 2013. The Israeli company OrSense has developed a new non-invasive technology for monitoring blood glucose levels for diabetes. Over 200 million people suffer from diabetes worldwide, with as much as 20 million diabetes in the United States alone.
There is no known cure for diabetes and patients rely on constant monitoring to maintain acceptable blood glucose levels. OrSense’s technology, which is known as Occlusion Spectroscopy, uses a non-invasive optical measurement platform combined with a ring-shaped cuff. Most diabetic patients need to receive daily insulin injections to control their blood sugar levels. Scientists created a working guitar the size of a red blood cell to illustrate the possible uses of nanotechnology. To check your blood sugar levels using a urine test, you will need some specialized urine test strips.
Checking your blood sugar with a blood test tends to be a little more involved than using a urine test.

Accordingly, a non-invasive blood sugar monitoring device that eliminates the need for a blood sample has long been sought after by diabetics.
