April 18, 2012 by admin · You know you have to check them, right?  I read a Facebook post yesterday where a woman wrote that she was afraid to check them. Ok, now that I have that off my chest, I want to talk about how often to check your blood sugars.

Thinking about this lead me to ponder the pH of our bodies and how it impacts the color of our health. Inner body environment pH (a measurement of the concentration of hydrogen ions; pH = potential of Hydrogen) is important and, in fact, crucial to human life and wellbeing. An acidic pH (a low ability to attract Hydrogen ions) can occur from acid forming foods, emotional stress, toxic overload or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen.

To restore and maintain optimal health with an alkalizing (a high ability to attract Hydrogen ions) diet, a minimum ratio of 80% alkalizing foods to 20% acid forming foods is ideal.

Although it is understandable that you might worry about gestational diabetes, and any steps in the process of being diagnosed, fear is truly not the answer. Breakfast time is also a great chance to have a little bit of happy family time before you all get wrapped up in work, school, and the stresses of the day.
When your blood sugar is low and your body is craving sustenance, it is going to tell you something is wrong in the form of irritability. If you are skipping breakfast, you are sending your body into pre-starvation mode and causing it to slow down and conserve whatever energy is remaining. If you aren’t starting your day already empty and hungry, you are less likely to make poor choices when it comes to snacking and exercise. The woman also has to undergo glucose screening tests in order to prove that she is really suffering from gestational diabetes.
The doctor might also advise her to make some modifications in her diet and physical activities. Taking concentrated, isolated calcium in the form of supplements acidifies the blood and has been shown to increase heart attack risk.

It is also essential to visit the health care provider to monitor not only the condition of the mother, but also of the baby. Also, experiment with the sweeteners Stevia (which comes from a leaf), and xylitol, which comes from birch trees; these have no zero on blood sugar levels! Three more blood extractions will be done every hour for the succeeding three hours, hence the test will last for approximately 3 hours. PS: other sweeteners, like the historically popular sweet’ n’ low for example, are even worse for you than table sugar!
The values derived from the OGTT will determine whether a pregnant woman has gestational diabetes or not.
