Carbohydrates, fats and other food groups are broken down into glucose and other components during digestion. Actually the glucose level in our blood varies, depending on the time of the day and the time since our last meal. If this balance is somehow disturbed, it can lead to a host of health issues, the most common being diabetes. There are certain simple lifestyle choices you can make that go a long way in helping your body maintain a normal blood glucose level.
Maintaining the normal glucose level in blood has become more important than ever for a growing number of people.
For a healthy individual in normal circumstances the normal glucose level in blood should be somewhere between 60 and 100. If you have a family history of diabetes and notice that you are experiencing frequent urination, increased appetite, and increased thirst you may be developing diabetes.
I don't want to go too low of course and my dog seems to be doing very well but I'm just curious if there are any suggestions, if my home testing was going better I would be able to tell more- they want me to do that fruitoscane (or whatever you call it) test in about 2-3 weeks. I'm not a big fan of a fructosamine test but you might have to do at least one to satisfy the vet that your dog's regulation matches the curve.
We did a couple of the fructosamine tests because the vet felt like she learned something from them as she was more used to using that than she was frequent blood glucose checks at home. I will get the whole curve numbers and let you know, I thought the curve numebers looked very good although I would like to be able to do my own curve at home as well. Thought I'd chime in here with my agreement in fructosamine tests being a waste of time and especially money when one is regularly home testing.

For an ever increasing number of people what is a normal glucose level is a really important question. Glucose is a type of sugar that the body gets from carbohydrates, sugars, and fatty foods that are consumed.
If you or someone you know is a diabetic the only way to keep from suffering from low blood glucose levels or high glucose levels is by staying on top of your glucose checks, keeping your diet right, and following your doctors recommendations. If the amount is too high (Hyperglycemia), or even too low (Hypoglycemia), our body stops functioning properly. So, the glucose level is lowest in the morning, when we wake up, and continues to be low till we have the first meal of the day.

This also happens when we consume alcohol – there is a huge surge of glucose in the body which later falls drastically.
Other problems could include memory loss, heart disease, infertility and even coma (in case of extreme hypoglycemia). When you eat bread with simple carbohydrates, it dumps a huge load of glucose in your blood which the body finds difficult to regulate. People who have one grapefruit every day (ideally split up between two meals) tend to lose weight and have a normal blood sugar level. But make sure that each of these meals are about half of what your regular meals are today. Even as heart disease, stroke, and stroke levels continue to decline the number of people affected by diabetes is rising by leaps and bounds. This is not a hard and fast rule; however, as the normal glucose level in blood may vary from person to person based on such factors as age, weight, and other health problems. If you experience any or all of these symptoms for any length of time you should visit your doctor. When people kept saying they were keeping their dogs between 90 and 216 I thought they meant at all times.
You could try tightening up the regulation a little more with a very small - no more than half a unit to start - increase in insulin once you're home testing and can get a better idea how things are day in and day out. Once you can test at home, they're essentially a waste of cash as you can learn more from home testing than from a fructosamine test, which provides only a vague average of the blood sugar for the precedig 2 weeks. But then I just started refusing them as I already knew what Chris' blood sugar was on a daily basis. While we make every effort to present information that is accurate and reliable, the views expressed here are not meant to be a substitute for the advice provided by a licensed veterinarian. The number of people diagnosed with heart disease, hypertension, and many forms of cancer, has been fairly steady or even slightly declining in recent years, but the number of people with diabetes continues to skyrocket. Glucose is important because it is used by each cell of the body as a source of fuel, and when glucose levels fall the body begins to shut down just as surely as a car shutting down when the fuel tank is empty.
You surely don’t want to be on a long trip when your car runs out of gas, and you don’t want to allow your body to suffer from lack of fuel or from an overload of glucose. When the blood glucose level rises, the Pancreas produces Insulin which facilitates the breakdown of glucose bringing the level down.

This ensures a steady flow of sugar into your blood and helps in maintaining a normal blood glucose level. Stress relief activities can go a long way in ensuring that the body becomes more capable of maintaining normal blood glucose level. Diabetes, if not properly treated, can result in kidney failure, heart disease, liver problems, glaucoma, peripheral neuropathy, wounds that won’t heal, and an entire host of other health problems.
The best way for the individual to determine what the normal glucose level in blood is for them is by visiting their doctor, as the doctor should be able to give the individual good information as to what their normal glucose level in blood should be.
Your doctor will administer a glucose tolerance test during which you will, after a short period of fasting, be given a glucose solution orally then your blood glucose level will be checked after an appropriate period of time to see if your body is managing glucose correctly. Please consult with your veterinarian for specific advice concerning the medical condition or treatment of your pet and before administering any medication or pursuing any course of treatment that you may read about on this site. For most diabetics there is a fine line between too much and too little glucose, and they must check their glucose several times a day in order to balance their medication dosage and diet to keep glucose within healthy levels. When the level goes lower than normal, Glucagon, also secreted by the Pancreas, induces the liver to release stored glucose bringing the level back to normal. No: People who have a glass of wine every day have less chance of having abnormal blood sugar level. Not only will you be maintaining your blood sugar at a normal level, but you will be on your way to living a healthier life as well.
Though there is, as yet, no cure for diabetes the key to managing the disease and stopping the worst effects is maintaining a normal glucose level in blood. After the test your doctor will be able to tell if the normal glucose level in blood is present and if not get you started with appropriate treatment. Diabetes is the number one cause of abnormal blood glucose levels due to the way it affects the way the body is able to metabolize the glucose that is taken in as food. All it takes is one misjudgment in insulin dosage, or one forgotten meal or snack to cause blood glucose levels to plummet to the point that the diabetic will lose consciousness and could even die without prompt treatment. Walking can not only keep your blood sugar levels normal but also increase HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol).
