UK airline easyJet has begun a 12-month trial of the Zonal Dryer system, which has been designed to reduce the weight of an aircraft. The units, made by Swedish CTT Systems, weigh less than 66lbs (30kg) each and will be installed on four A320 aircraft.  Designed to lessen weight-increasing moisture by up to 551lbs (250kg) per flight – the equivalent of 12 hold bags –they also aim to improve passenger air quality, by channelling dry air to the upper section of the aircraft.
According to the airline, its fleet is one of the greenest, claiming that an easyJet passenger’s carbon footprint is already 22% less than a passenger on another airline flying on the same route and using an identical type of aircraft. EasyJet charges A?10 for the first bag weighing up to 20 kilograms that is checked into the hold of its planes, with an additional A?10 charge for every kilogram over this weight.

This respected company compare the options for you and make it easy. Can I travel with just hand luggage on easyJet?Absolutely. Please note that passengers may only carry on their person one box of safety matches or one refillable cigarette lighter. These must be carried on the person and are NOT permitted in cabin baggage or in hold baggage.
This could have been easily avoided if the man had let us open up the case and throw away 1 pair of flip flops!
Handguns, automatic weapons, munitions, ammunition’s including blank cartridges, pistol caps, fireworks, flares, smoke canisters, and crackers. Passengers checking in firearms must check in at least 90 minutes prior to the scheduled time of departure. I am travelling on Friday, and need to know if I cannot take a handbag where i am supposed to put my passport, tickets and money. I usually book with your airline company and always take my little suitcase onboard with me. My case is perfect size for when it was your old baggage policy and now panicking that I won’t b able to bring it onboard now. I really don’t want to be spending more money to check my case in now as Im only going away for couple nights and know its pointless checking it in. Your old case will be fine but it is possible that you may be asked to put it in the hold now – that is all and there will be no charge for this. I bought the tickets without any luggage (except the small 50X40X20cm one) and now I want to add 1 piece per flight segment (but I am not sure what is the price).
However, in ? the price is a minimum of ?10 one way and ?20 is the maximum I believe if booking in advance online (do so or you will pay much higher easyJet baggage fees at the airport.)So, both ways between ?20-?40 and a similar price in other currencies.
2) Don`t take the backpack – just take one cabin bag up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm (which is quite big) and while this is not within the guaranteed easyJet size it will be free and almost certainly will be allowed on.
3) Pay the hold luggage fee which is around ?10-?20 each way.I hope this helps but you can`t take two pieces of separate luggage as you board per person. As you say your hand luggage could end up in the hold as it is over 50x40x20cm.Thinking of it probably not because you effectively have another bag for free so that would be rewarding those with slightly larger hand luggage and they are trying to encourage you to take the guaranteed size. I will try to get back to you on this and if you find out any more then please let me know. However, this is your ONE piece of hand baggage so it may be best to put it in a hand luggage case with a few other items or pay for hold luggage also as it will take up the vast majority of your allowance.
I have wondered the same thing before and would suggest one or two things you can do to try to avoid this.
Just a guess but I imagine they are often out very slightly but could not be significantly but that could still make people have to pay excess baggage unfairly.I just did some research and it seems that scales are maintained by the airport and not the airlines.
They are also apparently slightly inaccurate but normally to the benefit of passengers slightly. Try to stay around 1 kg less than the allowance.2) Mention your own scales and ASK for it to be reweighed on another luggage scale.
This seems to be the best solution as it is very unlikely that two scales are going to be incorrect the same way.Hope that puts your mind at rest – let me know if you have any updates or other questions!

I use a hard, samsonite case, manufactured to meet airline cabin bag restrictions, that measures 55 x 40 x 20cm.
A couple of years ago when travelling by FlyBE from Southampton, the ladies (and I use the term loosely) at check-in made me use the metal size gauge which my case would not fit into. Bearing in mind FlyBE’s size limits are 55 x 40 x 23cm their gauge could not, therefore, be accurate. I was forced to pay ?60 to put my bag in the hold, at a time when I could least afford to throw money away. I understand the FlyBE staff at Southampton Airport have form in this respect, even gaining bonuses on the amount of extra business they can bring in by such underhand and fraudulent tactics. The worst kind of timeshare, or used-car salesmen couldn’t teach these people any new tricks in mistreating their customers! I know the world has changed a great deal in the last couple of decades but in the UK it used to be that if businesses, whether sole traders or conglomerates, offered for sale anything by weight, volume, size or other specification, they had to prove the efficacy and accuracy of the measure applied e.g. Measures had to be verified periodically by an official, accredited body and appropriate records kept by the seller. What I am asking for is confirmation that this principle still applies and that if an airline cannot prove the up-to-date accuracy of its size or weighing equipment, then they cannot use such equipment to make financial charges on customers and become subject to legal action if they do so.
I was held up similarly at an airport in Vienna with easyJet and it fit with a little pushing! However, that was not good enough and I could have sorted it out if this picky guy let me repack so reluctantly had to pay 50 euros. That is part of the reason I set up this site to help people avoid these fees as they are excessive and unfair but can be beaten if you prepare for a couple of minutes.Furthermore, if the airlines say you are over it is very difficult to claim otherwise because they can hold you to ransom and simply claim you can`t fly with that bag! Ryanair are the worst and even charge for online check in!Unfortunately I do not about the accreditation of the size of the gauges.
I can only assume they are the right size or surely there would be a big scandal although I know the airlines don`t mind ripping us off! However when we came back again with Easyjet we were stopped and our luggage was sized and found to be a couple of cms too long and we were fined 55 euros??
How can an airline allow you to travel in one direction with a case as hand luggage that isn’t allowed on the way back??
A dozen or so Spanish teenagers and their teachers were onboard this flight with enormous cases and not one of them were stopped, cases sized or were they questioned?? You may have got lucky on the way out or your case could have expanded if you put a lot in it and it was a soft type case. The only way is to play their silly games and check you`re not breaching them and then they can`t do anything.I agree the rules should be more fairly enforced on all and that is a major frustration.
They may have got lucky or something else – perhaps they don`t stop school groups? Thanks for your comment but it is is not illegal but possibly unfair.
