A group of practitioners bring a unique form of Chinese medicine to remote regions of the world—stretching medicine's possibilities, confronting its limitations, and offering alternatives to healing.
WALKING HOSPITAL LONG-TERM PROJECT:
The goal of the WALKING HOSPITAL project is to examine an array of regions with unique needs and diverse cultures. The documentary begins in Mustang, Nepal, in the foothills of the Himalayas, where isolated villagers receive medical care -- many for the first time. The film segues to Upper Mustang in Nepal where a punishing trek leads the practitioners to one of the world's most forbidding regions, then to Bali where the effects of the tsunami are still being felt by families stricken with poverty. The story comes back to America following the plight of Arizona Navajo riddled with Type 2 Diabetes who have lost the skills to sow their own land, then to Jackson Hole, Wyoming— juxtaposing the ironic setting of one of America's wealthiest communities—with an invisible immigrant population who work in the shadows.
The second segment in Upper Mustang Lomanthang will be completed in fall 2011 and the final two segments will be released in Summer 2012.
