The movie´s main character is a fugitive convicted for political reasons based on a orchestrated "verbal act" and imprisoned in a cruel prison camp on Goli otok (transl. Naked Island). He barely manages to escape swimming to the nearby island Rab. Weakened from hours of swimming and severely wounded from sharp rocks, he is found unconscious at the coast by nuns. They hide him in their monastery on Kaldanac. Helpless and dying, he is nourished and outcome of his condition is uncertain. While lying in bed, between chaotic scenes from prison camp and severe gangrene crisis, he tries to find out motives from his sudden saviors. He is being pursuit by a metropolitan special agent and local police officers.
Political and police repression over residents of small town Rab is powerful and omnipresent and turns into real siege. Taking care of the fugitive has become gradually difficult and extremely dangerous for his protectors. His awareness of that situation brings him in a conflict moral dilemma as he does not want to punish his protectors in this way. His dilemma does not have a logic outcome. He decides for uncertain turnover "in everyone´s favor". With a basic principle of parallel observing this couple of independent story layers, the interaction of every character´s motifs related to the fugitive is possible and it unifies them in the same idea -- instinctive rebellion against totalitarian repression.
