I’m starting with this beautiful picture I found on an Italian Bridal company website. Hi, I’m Derek!I make book covers, blog about self-publishing and book marketing, and build resources to help indie authors publish better looking books.
I believe all of us are capable (and thus responsible) of utilizing our creative abilities to become masters of our own lives, generating more money than we need, and reinvesting our new-found time and resources to make a meaningful and powerful impact. More specifically, I help authors and artists produce, promote, and sell more books and paintings. I look through my photoshop brushes for something that can work; I add one design to the top, flip the canvas around, and do it again to the bottom. I believe when we dedicate ourselves to what we enjoy, and refuse to compromise our time by doing things we loathe, we’ll become exceptional, and have something truly valuable to offer others.
Thank you for your gracious words, your patience and your conscientious commitment to ensuring that in spite of my reticence and fumbling, I got the cover I want.
People stopped and had their friends take a picture while they held it beside their face, the cover truly sells the book.
Instead, just put in half her body somehow… Then, blend in a background that means something to the plot, and a good font. I want a flowery, script-like text for this book – but adding text is difficult because of the extreme contrast. He helped me conceive the cover, created several rounds of designs, took cover changes like a champ, and never gave up on helping me as an independent author to produce a quality product. I’ll either have to do it in black with an outer glow (1), or in white with a drop shadow (2), or fit the whole thing in a patch of homogeneous color (3). He was also incredibly patient, easy to work with, and tirelessly answered questions or helped me problem-solve months after he was technically “finished”. Not only is he an amazing artist, but the guidance and problem-solving help he freely gave was above and beyond.

An alternate history where African natives developed steam power ahead of their colonial oppressorsRelease Date: September 6, 2016 The Queen of Blood The beginning of Durst’s first foray into adult fantasy, about the spirits that wish to destroy humanity and the young women tasked with fighting them.
I will definitely be hiring him for my next publication and recommend him highly to other authors. This one is one of my most anticipated fantasy reads of 2016Release Date: September 22, 2016 Crooked Kingdom Sequel to the highly popular (and one of my personal favorite's) YA fantasy book's last year which was a cross between Lies of Locke Lamora and Ocean's Eleven.
I can't wait for this bookRelease Date: October 25, 2016 The Blood Mirror The next book in Brent Week's fabulous Lightbringer series -- a series with one of the more interesting magic systems and compelling world building. Actually, Luke Scull can, who has with his Grim Company books proven himself to be at the forefront of the Grim Dark fantasy movement. Those looking for Hobb’s glass jaw heroes or the cynical realism of Martin’s cast of characters may find themselves somewhat disappointed, but Weeks delivers a unique world and very addictive story. The plot revolves around Azoth, a young orphan boy who grows up in a ghetto that makes Brooklyn look like Beverly Hills. Her story starts when her mother dies and she is summoned to the city of Sky where she is named heiress to the King. Part of a gang of street children, Azoth longs for a better life, a life free from the daily abuse he endures at the hands of the older boys. After an encounter with Durzo Blint, the world’s greatest wetboy — a sort of super assassin with serious magical powers, Azoth stalks Blint in an attempt to become his apprentice. By passing a gruesome entrance exam that involves a vicious murder, Azoth lands his apprentice with Blint. The Way of the Shadow is a very dark. Alcuard agreed when he stated he thought the best part of the book was that it reads quickly. While the novel is generally pretty serious, Weeks populates his world with over-the-top characters.
Both heroes and villains are powerful – almost too powerful. The villains are the standard type found in a fantasy world (remorselessly evil), but the heroes are what makes this novel interesting.
Moonspawn thought the best part of Hundred Thousand Kingdoms was Jemisin’s attention to detail.

Yet, at one time Blint was in fact the best of heroes, the greatest of men…and these memories torture his soul. It’s a novel about killing…and redemption.Despite the strengths of the novel, there are some weaknesses. People were divided on the character of Yeline but everyone universally agreed that the romance aspect was awful. Just in the interest of warning there is a strong rape subtext and none of us could find a valid, believable, non-weird explanation in the character’s actions, beliefs, or feelings in regards to that. Most of us enjoyed how Jemisin used the Gods in the story. However, the strong action, interesting characters, and addictive plot make this forgivable.
Sneaky found the human control over the gods interesting, as well.I think the best way to sum up is to say, this book could have been great if Jemisin had left her weird anime influences out of this one (thanks to Amaryllis for that pick up). For the most part it was a refreshing diversion from the world of ‘gritty and grey’ and had some really great moments. BeaulieuSharakhai, the great city of the desert, center of commerce and culture, has been ruled from time immemorial by twelve kings -- cruel, ruthless, powerful, and immortal. With their army of Silver Spears, their elite company of Blade Maidens and their holy defenders, the terrifying asirim, the Kings uphold their positions as undisputed, invincible lords of the desert. There is no hope of freedom for any under their rule.Or so it seems, until Ceda, a brave young woman from the west end slums, defies the Kings' laws by going outside on the holy night of Beht Zha'ir. What she learns that night sets her on a path that winds through both the terrible truths of the Kings' mysterious history and the hidden riddles of her own heritage.
