Our approach is to explore the topic of guns through the widest lens possible, to deliver these findings as fairly and accurately as possible and to host the opinions and perspectives of our writers and readers as selflessly as possible, trying our best not to get in the way of our contributors. Our headquarters are in Illinois but our contributors submit to us from across the United States — from Maine to California, from Texas to Alaska and every state in between. Guns Ammo Tactical or GAT is your Daily source of news and reviews for everything firearms, gun, weapons or 2nd amendment related.
Please be aware some of the sites we link you to could have pop ups and that we have no control over them. You can see the distinctive collar or beard on the Javelina that separates from that of a Wild Boar.
Javelinas can be found in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Mexico, Central America, and most of South America. This entry was posted in Boar Hunting 101, Good Reads and tagged Boar, collar, herd, hog, hunt, Hunting, javelina, musk, peccary, pig, scent, skunk, sounder, tajacu, Tayassu, wild.

Our desire is to allow our writers and readers to tell their stories, no matter what the story is, as long as we believe a) it will benefit or interest gun owners and b) conforms to ethical journalistic methods and practices. However, we will never link you to a site that requires you to make any purchase or join anything to view the article. While they look similar in appearance, and have many similar traits, they are not the same.
The scientific name is Tayassu tajacu. Javelina are in the Peccary family, with wild boar as a very distant cousin in the Suidea family. Javelinas weight range is between  45-80 pounds, while wild hogs range between 80-350 pounds typically.
They use their nose the same as a wild boar to root for their food, as they are opportunistic omnivores. They are found in desert environments in high chaparral, near water sources, and heavy brush.

Most of us see the earth as a resource worth preserving and aren’t fans of anything that has to go into a landfill.
One sure sign is that they are smaller than a wild boar, and have a short-cropped beard (called a collar) around their face which gives them a very distinctive look. Keeping trash not only out of the dumps but recycling and reusing it in ways that help themselves be self sufficient and assist with their determination to face whatever may come head on. The featured article in this post is some of our friend the Survival Mom’s ideas on turning trash to prepper treasure. It is up to you to use common sense and your own best judgment when using any information contained within the articles.
