Since leaving the army, Dave has trained and now teaches wilderness survival at his Pathfinder Training School in Southeast Ohio. Pathfinder also offers a 3 phase E-Course for anyone from beginner to instructor. They are a self paced learning systems that provide you with outlines and lessons to guide you through research and practical exercises at the pace you choose. I am interested in joining your hands on class to teach me the skills needed to survive in the wilderness if needed. Have small group of adults interested in learning how to pick and surrvive on wild plants and how to prepare them in the woods. This might be strange to you, but I follow the Jewish food laws as part of my religion, which means there are a few animals I can’t eat. I was interested in joining but there’s one thing that stumped me, what is this age limit? Woodland Ways Blog - Bushcraft and Survival is proudly powered by WordPressEntries (RSS) and Comments (RSS).
Dave has more than 20 years experience and personal training in both a civilian and military environment.
Canterbury is a professional hunting guide and tracker that has posted over 300 survival-themed instructional videos online. The Virtual Classroom on their site is described as “an opportunity to either jump start the learning process or give additional research for the Phase 1 E-Course. There is no time limit to these courses and typical students take between 6 months and 1 year to complete Phase 1.

They also have an online store that carries all types of survival gear that is personally chosen by Dave Canterbury for its usability and quality.
The Virtual Classroom, E-courses and hands on training, gives you the flexibility to learn what you, when you want, at the price you want! Would you please send me the info needed to be able to join both the online and the hands on class. My girlfriend and I are wanting to learn more on survival and want to experience a survival situation on our own. Our main camps teaching the survival course are located in Derbyshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, Leicestershire, and Lincolnshire. It is a membership area of our site and offers many videos not available on YouTube as well as many downloadable PDF files to help with your research.
Completing the phase 3 certification gives you the opportunity to become a paid Pathfinder Instructor at the Pathfinder School. New Videos are added as we have the available time to film them, and addition files are added as well.
The advanced course will test the limits of your current knowledge, forcing you to undergo water and food deprivation until you can accomplish true to life tasks that may be needed in an emergency.
Pathfinder group hands on courses range from $250 to $400 per course and usually take about 3 days to complete. Much too much hassle, your modular approach is the way forward.I’ve carried a UK military wound dressing since it was the only compulsory item to carry on the Outward Bound course I was on in 1980. I’ve added a small roll of duct tape, some zip-ties and a Thermarest repair kit to mine for running-repairs. Only comment is that even with a fire steel fire making can be really difficult so, as always with any skill that you may actually be relying upon to save your bacon…. I have two fire steels, one that I use and practise with and one in the kit to be there in perfect condition should I ever need it.

Knowing that you can use everything (legal) effectively will add to your confidence and positive attitude which could be the difference between success and failure.Reply Paul KirtleyHi BernieAbsolutely. I remember you showing me a little ‘green box’ with a sealable lid in which you carried some sharpening stones ?? I try to spend as much time in the woods as humanly possible and you just never know what can happen.Reply PierreI have been struggling for a few days on the matter of matches.
I understand the need for a backup to the firesteel for convenience lighting some kindling. But if you already have a firesteel and a lighter, why bother with matches? Then it finally occured to me. Even if you keep it warm close to your body, once you get it out to use it you might only have a few seconds of pressure.
That’s where, in my rationale, matches have a role to play.Do you see other distinctive advantages of matches? I never tested greased cotton wool in very cold and wet environment.Reply Paul KirtleyHi PierreGood questions! I travel a lot for work and I am interested to know what you would leave or replace had you wanted to carry a kit on an aircraft, obviously a knife is out etc regards DanoReply Paul KirtleyHi Dano Thanks for the comment and positive feedback on my blog. People underestimate the difference made to survival rates by taking full notice of this information. The terrain and mode of travel or situation where such a kit might be of use is a pretty rare event.Any how nice work on the blog.
