It won't be an exaggeration to say that the survival of the human race rests on its ability to communicate. The concept of communication cycle has been developed for the sender and receiver of the message to work on communication, by way of feedback.
At a very rudimentary level, the cycle involves we aiming at what we want to say, how we say it, our intention of saying it, followed by an expected interpretation and response to the message. In the real world, however, there are many alterations and variations made to this model of the communication cycle.
Here in the Philippines we have to research the lesson on the internet in order to teach for the next day of lesson, lack of printed materials for the learners.
Communication is one of my modules of study for this semester and this article was properly formulated, in that it allowed me to fully understand the communication cycle.

Upon decoding the message successfully, the receiver has to formulate a response and send it in the form of feedback. If the sender lacks clarity of thought, the message that he creates will obviously reflect this. Although the sender is expected to draft it as clearly as possible, it is the receiver's duty to give it the attention it deserves. Well, the funnel technique gives us a useful visual reference for thinking about questioning skills.
Sometimes it may be necessary to repeat or rephrase this question to give the appraisee more thinking time and further opportunities to raise information.


But for a whole host of reasons it can be very challenging to stay focused and really listen to someone, particularly in a more formal discussion such as an appraisal.
The urgency of the message, and the cost factor may also influence the mode of communication.
Working down the narrowing body of the funnel we use a series of probing questions to draw out further specific information and help complete the picture. For one thing, it can be tempting to think ahead to what your next question is going to be. The entire process of communication begins with conceptualizing the desired message, which is then communicated to the right person.
It could be verbal, or electronic; the priority is that the message should be sent across through minimum fuss. Closed questions then have their place to draw out, check or confirm specific pieces of information, or to get the appraisee to commit on a point more precisely. This then brings us to the bottom of the funnel where we clarify, using a short summary, what we have got out of the discussion, aiming to check our understanding of the main points.
The solution to this takes the form of what is termed a€?active listeninga€™ and we can use the acronym LISTEN to gain some useful guidance on this.
