A good seed for survival and builds, it has a small village with basic survival needs such as a forest, a snowy taiga biome, and a stone beach for early game stone and builds. There are a few horse outside of the village, two adult spotted chestnut, one spotted chestnut foal (baby horse) and on adult chestnut.
There is a stone beach in near spawn, with a small lava waterfall, and tiny lone block in the sky. In the featured picture a lean-to survival shelter has been constructed in a survival training class apparently in Europe.
The leaves of the thatching are hanging down meaning that any water will follow the branch and leaf stem then on down to the tip where it will drip onto the occupants below. This shelter would be marginal even with a tarp as a cover over the woodwork frame as the roof is too low and the roof slope should really be greater. To create the proper survival shelter – Before doing anything, determine the purposes of the shelter, the needs the shelter must provide. If you’ve read Survival Knives 101: The Uses of a Good Survival Knife, you’ll know that the name of the game for this type of knife is versatility. Strength in a knife is the ability to take stress without permanently deforming or breaking. Hardness is a measure of the ability of a blade to take stress without deforming, that is, a test of strength.
High Hardness (HRC 60-65) – At this level, edges hold very well but at the upper end 63-65 the steel is relatively brittle and subject to chipping.
Medium Hardness (HRC 58-60) – This is the ‘general purpose’ level of hardness, which has good strength and will hold an edge fairly well. Low Hardness (HRC 52-58) – This is the softer level most suitable for blades that will receive high impact, such as axes and meat cleavers (see toughness below). Toughness describes the ability of a blade to take impact without damage and is the most desired characteristic of a good survival knife. That is, the harder the blade, the more strength it may have, but it becomes more brittle and loses toughness. Edge is a two-sided characteristic of a good survival knife  – taking and edge, and holding it.

Stain and corrosion resistance is an odd characteristic in that among modern steels, whether plain carbon, alloy hybrids or stainless steel, serious damage to the knife from stains or corrosion is rare.
Instead of diving straight into the technical details of a survival knife, let’s start with something very basic –  Survival Knife Uses.  Most everybody knows that survival knives are fairly large, arguably around 6 to 8 inches in blade length with relatively thick blades and sturdy construction. It would be simple to say that when you purchase a survival knife, especially an expensive one, what you’re paying for is the best knife steel, or the quality steel of the blade. Before discussing the parts of a knife we must first discuss what type of knife we are discussing.
There are thousands of blade designs – wandering through a well-stocked knife shop or website can be bewildering. Knife Brand – Ultimately, the reputation, policies and specifications of a brand (knife manufacturer) are the only things short of your own field-use that indicate the quality of a survival knife. This Blog is in the Minetorials : Tutorials with a Minecraft Theme contest, now Complete!See the Final Leaderboard! It has a blacksmith with five apples, two bread, one iron ingot, one iron sword and one iron pickaxe.
I am making some assumptions here, but this picture is one of many showing accomplishments of the class.
Feet seem to be at the bottom of the roof and the front edge is little if any farther out than their heads. Making meals, writing in a journal, or doing other tasks would be very difficult without being able to at least sit up comfortably. Many times people assume a shelter is only for sleeping in, while we all know that it rains in the daytime as well as at night. I have seen so many wholly inadequate shelters built, all with happy smiling faces of the builders, unknowing the discomfort that awaits them should a storm arise. Just how versatile a good survival knife can be is a function of the quality of the knife parts, its design, and its blade characteristics. Of course, the knife also has to have toughness, which happens to be one of the principles characteristics of knife blades, along with strength, hardness, edge, wear resistance and stain resistance. The knife industry commonly uses the Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) to measure the hardness of a steel blade. It’s especially important for uses such as chopping or digging, when the blade may encounter something as hard as it is. For example, ceramic knives are extremely hard with an almost permanent edge, but they are fragile and subject to chipping or breaking.

Of course, the flipside is that very thin, very sharp edges may easily lose their sharpness – or fold and chip.
This is most obvious in the ability of a blade to take and hold an edge but also applies to the entire blade.
In short, unless used in a particularly harsh environment such as the sea or a chemical plant, stain and corrosion may be a cosmetic issue. As with most things that people prize, collect, and use, almost everything about knives is up for discussion and often disagreement. Over the years I have seen hundreds of pictures of survival training shelters – that are worthless. Probably not for at least two reasons, 1) the forest seems plenty thick to provide shade on its own, 2) notice the woodpile on the left is covered with a tarp to protect from the rain.
A proper shelter should provide protection, comfort, and ability of occupants to perform many tasks including meal preparation.
Softer steel in the blade makes it easier to bend it but at a certain point may bend permanently. Most survival knives use blade steel that sits somewhere in the middle of qualities for strength (hardness) and toughness.
Edges are created by a combination of blade geometry, the shape and structure of the steel, and the specific grind. It’s mostly a function of hardness, but varies a great deal between manufacturers – even with similar Rockwell hardness. As one expert put it, “The only downfall of carbon steels is they will rust pretty quickly. If you are going to hack down natural resources to make a shelter at least make the shelter, a shelter.
If harvesting live materials for practice, I like to gather from a wide area so I am only doing a light pruning here and there.
In a real situation you would not want to waste calories and would take whatever is closest.
