The SSFCC students completed their First Aid and CPR training (a requirement of Certificate III in Fitness) as part of their Module A studies last week. Surf Life Saving trainer, Stuart Massey gave our students a fresh perspective, and taught them some of the most useful and interesting information they have learned so far on the course. Over two busy mornings, students learned essential skills to save lives, such as CPR on adults and infants, use of the defibrilator, and dealing with different types of wounds and injuries.
Hopefully during the career of a fitness instructor, the need to save a life will not arise very often. They participated in practical demonstrations, role-plays and theory-based learning to consolidate their knowledge and skills. Our students have now gained competency in both CPR and HLTFA311A Apply First Aid , and are ready to put what they have learned into practice, if necessary.
We believe that by building this into the course, we are ensuring that our students learn from the most qualified and experienced life savers out there. The students commented that what they have learned from Staurt is really valuable, not just to help them complete their fitness qualification, but also to use in every day life, as you never know when you might need to use first aid. For more information on doing a one-day first aid course through Surf Life Saving NSW, check their workshop dates here.

On behalf of SELC Sport & Fitness Career College, we’d like to thank Surf Life Saving NSW for bringing their expert knowledge and experience to give our students a really unforgettable learning experience!
The Korea Lifesaving Association (KLS) was officially founded in 1997 as the ‘Lifesaving on the Water Association’. The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations. Three staff members at Merimbula RSL Club have reinforced the importance of regular First Aid training after successfully resuscitating a female patron just five days after completing a refresher Apply First Aid course with Pambula SLSC.Garry Innes, Johanna Innes and Jasmine Moore put their recent training to good use when a patron of the club suddenly collapsed needing immediate medical attention. Garry Innes, a supervisor at the club, said he hopes this event will encourage people to see the importance of having regular First Aid training.
Michael Mutsch, General Manager of Merimbula RSL said he was very proud of his staff and is still getting positive feedback from people who were present when the patron collapsed.
