If a wound is bleeding but is fairly small, a waterproof plaster can be used once the wound has been washed with water and padded dry. If the wound is small or the patient has a foreign object in their eye such as dirt or grit, but is not embedded, you can use an eye pad or small dressing until you get medical advice. To use the eye pad, apply it lightly over the eye and secure it with some bandage around the head using a knot or tape. If you think it’s just a strain and some of the swelling has gone down as a result of the ice pack, apply the crepe bandage for support and secure using tape or safety pins. When applying, the pad should be completely sealed down to stop infections entering the wound and stop blood seeping out. Sterile gloves are used to protect the patient if the first aider’s hands are dirty and protects the first aider if the patient is bleeding. Although fairly uncommon, a tendon rupture can be a serious problem and may result in excruciating pain and permanent disability if untreated. A group of four muscles -- the vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius, and the rectus femoris -- come together just above the kneecap (patella) to form the patellar tendon. Often called the quads, this group of muscles is used to extend the leg at the knee and aids in walking, running, and jumping.
This tendon is vital for pushing off with the foot (this motion is known as plantarflexion).
The rotator cuff is located in the shoulder and is actually composed of four muscles: the supraspinatus (the most common tendon ruptured), infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis. This group of muscles functions to raise your arm out to the side, helps you rotate the arm, and keeps your shoulder from popping out of its socket. The rotator cuff tendon is one of the most common areas in the body affected by tendon injury. You may notice a crunchy sound or feeling when you use the tendon. The symptoms of a tendon injury can be a lot like those caused by bursitis.

Just thinking about the wound will give you the heebie-jeebies… just try to ignore it.

Keep dousing it in peroxide each day and wrapping it up.  Foot soaks in Epsom salts are still soothing. If you have responded in the previous ways, you will be surprised at how little bruising there is and how your nail seems to be settled into the nail bed again.  Granted, the nail is probably going to fall off at some point, but today is not that day. I’m terrified by the possibility of losing a toenail, through running or other methods.
Ok, I have to admit, i’m commenting without reading your entire post, because i was seriously getting the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it!!! Since you’re Director of Web Services, I suppose you already know I discovered your blog through a Google search *toenail half ripped off* After walking around Walgreens sorta nauseated while I picked up various medical supplies, your third step – Avoid passing out – certainly spoke to me. Toenails usually grow back in a slightly odd way, looking like they’re not settled into the nailbed quite right, but they usually settle in.

If the wound is on the arm or leg, cut along the seam of the trousers or the shirt and on a side away from the wound. Each type of tendon rupture has its own signs and symptoms and can be treated either surgically or medically depending on the severity of the rupture and the confidence of the surgeon.
It is the site of attachment of the calf muscle (gastrocnemius muscle) to the heel of the foot (the calcaneus bone). And if you are crazy enough to do so, please don’t yell at me if your toenail doesn’t heal that well!
Beautiful day out so I went and lay by the pool in our Condo community to just relax in the midst of finals. I think I talked myself out of feeling nauseous or pain because it looked like I had one toenail painted with bright red nail polish. Everything you are saying is very true especially the cold sweats and wanting to black out or vomit. I felt kinda pathetic since I went through natural (no pain meds) childbirth 3 times and never felt like I was going to pass out.
But if you can’t find them in person, there are a couple of options available on Amazon!

It usually takes however long it takes your nail to grow out past that point for it to go away. Basically, you have to wait until the injured area grows all the way out and you’ve trimmed off all the injured part. Was considering getting one of the driving carts but I decided against it because it would require me telling yet another person how retarded I am.
Really bummed out because I have to give a race a miss tomorrow, and I have another one next weekend.
I guess it will all depend on just how bad the damage is, since yours is still bleeding is sounds like it may take a while.
Sometimes your body can reabsorb some of that blood, but if it’s really dark red or black under the nail, you have to wait until that is grown out for it to go away.
If the swelling does not go down, it could be a break so you should seek medical advice as an x-ray may be needed. Conditions that make a rupture more likely include the injection of steroids into a tendon, certain diseases (such as gout or hyperparathyroidism), and having type O blood.
Half of my toenail was in the verge of coming off but I just wrapped it up in gauze (like you said) and hold it back in place for a long time before jumping in to do first aid treatments. It hurt like the devil and I took care of my toenails more after that especially during hikes where I prefer to use a pair of sandals than shoes or boots.
When we got back to our house and I started cleaning it up I realized that over half the nail was ripped off.
Right now my nail looks like I tried to put on a fake nail that was too big and doesnt fit with minor oozing.I will not go into other details on here although I get a kick out of grossing people out. I have been taking some left over antibiotics (I never finish my prescriptions)hoping to keep out infection along with keeping it as clean as possible .
When I was changing them this morning, it looked seriously nasty – only about a third of my nail remained. So anyway I tried to keep the nail on it as long as I could and managed about 2 months or so, but the other day it was time to give up on the sinking ship so to speak as it was all but totally disconnected, and really only just tucked under the skin in a part, which slid off easily.
