Sustainable Energy - The Future is Clear We Must Move Forward With SESustainable energy (SE), with it the future is clear, and much cleaner for that matter!
There are several different definitions of this term, with energy efficiency and renewable energy being the twin pillars of SE. Effectively, the provision of energy such that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Energy which is replenish-able within a human lifetime and causes no long-term damage to the environment. What makes energy that is sustainable different from other new renewable energy terminology like alternative energy, green energy, or green power, is that it focuses on the ability of that energy source to continue to provide energy, and also allows it to produce some pollution to the environment as long as it does not prohibit heavy use of the source for an indefinite amount of time.
Green power is a subset of renewable energy and represents those renewable energy resources and technologies that provide the greatest benefit to the environment. Renewable energy technologies are the essential contributors to SE as they generally contribute to worldwide energy security, reducing dependence on fossil fuel resources, and providing opportunities for controlling and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. There are currently three generations of renewables technologies, reaching back more than 100 years.
First-generation technologies emerged from the industrial revolution at the end of the 19th century and include hydropower, biomass combustion, and geothermal power and heat. Second-generation technologies include solar heating and cooling, wind power, modern forms of bio-energy, and solar photovoltaics.
Third-generation technologies are still under development and include advanced biomass gasification, bio-refinery technologies, concentrating solar thermal power, hot dry rock geothermal energy, and ocean energy. First and second-generation renewable energy technologies have already entered the energy markets, and third-generation renewable energy technologies heavily depend on long term research and development commitments, where the public sector has an important role to play. A 2008 comprehensive cost-benefit analysis review of energy solutions in the context of global warming and other issues ranked wind power combined with battery electric vehicles (BEV) as the most efficient, followed by concentrated solar power, geothermal power, tidal power, photovoltaic, wave power, coal capture and storage, nuclear energy, and finally biofuels.
There are few signs that the urgently needed change in direction in global energy trends is underway. Against this unpromising background, events such as those at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and the turmoil in parts of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) have cast doubts on the reliability of energy supply, while concerns about sovereign financial integrity have shifted the focus of government attention away from energy policy and limited their means of policy intervention, boding ill for agreed global climate change objectives.
Thirty-five years after the Agency’s founding, the IEA responsibility for ensuring access to global oil supplies is still a core mandate – but new energy-related concerns have arisen. This information paper accompanies the IEA publication Deploying Renewables 2011: Best and Future Policy Practice (IEA, 2011a). It provides an account of the strategic drivers underpinning renewable energy (RE) technology deployment (energy security, economic development and environment protection) and assesses RE technologies with respect to these drivers, including an estimate of GHG emissions reductions due to RE technologies. The paper also explores the different barriers to deploying renewables at a given stage of market maturity and discusses what tools policy makers can avail of to succeed in removing deployment barriers. An additional topical highlight explores the challenges associated with accelerating the diffusion of RE technologies in developing countries.
Moving towards energy sustainability will require changes not only in the way energy is supplied, but in the way it is used, and reducing the amount of energy required to deliver various goods or services is essential. Renewable energy and energy efficiency are sometimes said to be the “twin pillars” of a SE policy.
Improving energy efficiency is one of the most constructive and cost–effective ways to address the challenges of high energy prices, energy security and independence, air pollution, and global climate change. Increased efficiency can lower greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants, as well as decrease water use.
Improving energy efficiency costs significantly less than investing in new generation and transmission.
When integrated into energy resource plans, energy efficiency can provide long-term benefits by lowering baseload and peak demand and reducing the need for additional generation and transmission assets. Energy efficiency also diversifies utility resource portfolios and can be a hedge against uncertainty associated with fluctuating fuel prices and other risk factors. The UN General Assembly is encouraging Member States and other actors to increase the awareness of the importance of addressing energy issues and to promote action at the local, national, regional and international levels.
Every year hundreds of organizations and individuals in over 30 countries take part in EU Sustainable Energy week by hosting Energy Day events and activities that promote energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
Be a part of it in 2012 by holding a SE-themed event, project or activity in Brussels or in your country between 18 and 22 June. There are many things we can do to promote and facilitate the growth of sustainable energy, and the easiest and simplest is energy efficiency and energy conservation. In the late hours of October 23, The Government of the Bahamas warned about tropical storm and Hurricane Sandy entered the land. In October 23, hurricane watch centers agreed that Hurricane Sandy is coming to East Coast of the United States. Federal Emergency Management Agency started to monitor Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta and New York City.
After the events of Final Crisis and Battle for the Cowl, where Bruce Wayne supposedly dies by the hands of Darkseid, DC set out to restart the entire Bat-Family set (Batman, Batgirl, Birds of Prey, Detective Comics, and Batman and Robin). The series started out quite well creatively with new villains and an interesting dynamic with the new Dark Knight and Boy Wonder. The series itself has had sixteen issues currently and at least three more have been confirmed. In  the first arc, Batman and Robin Reborn, we see the dynamic of the new Dark Knight and Boy Wonder.
The fifth arc of the series is quite possibly the most confusing thing that has happened since Final Crisis. While the story started out well with many good dynamics it soon began to change and sort of drift off. While it may have shaky bits inside it, if you love Batman as much I do you will want to read this series.

There’s nothing more damaging to a weight loss effort than feeling like we’re doing everything right but still not seeing results. Okay, so, this may not be a huge surprise for anyone who has been following my blog for a while.
One of the coolest scientific discoveries of the last few years has been the identification of the reason we actually need sleep. Sleep may be the biggest factor hindering weight loss, but certainly it’s not the only one. As a mother, author, and small business owner, I can tell you from personal experience that not having a handle on our stress levels can really take a toll on our bodies (see: My Personal Battles With Stress). We can take a few easy steps to ensure that our cortisol levels follow the appropriate pattern (see Managing Stress). So, the evidence is clear: chronic stress is a significant contributor to weight loss plateaus, and we might be able to break through a plateau by stressing less. The idea that when you start Paleo you should “throw out your scale” is pretty pervasive in this community. To abolish slavery or to stop the war? Lincoln faces his own crisis of conscience and a race against time to get the needed votes in order to pass the amendment before anyone stops it. I would recommend this movie to people interested in biography, history, politics and drama. No matter how you look at it, it is one of the most critical aspects of us moving forward and keeping our existing way of life intact.
To reduce the risks of runaway climate change, or reaching a tipping point in our climate, we must reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, which will mean renewable, clean energy sources.
On the other hand, low-carbon energy is different from SE in that low-carbon energy is only sustainable in the sense that it does not add to the CO2 levels in the atmosphere. The planet has a natural capability to recover which means pollution that does not go beyond that capability can still be termed as green.

These are now entering markets as a result of research, development and demonstration (RD&D) investments since the 1980s. Although the recovery in the world economy since 2009 has been uneven, and future economic prospects remain uncertain, global primary energy demand rebounded by a remarkable 5% in 2010, pushing CO2 emissions to a new high. It provides more detailed data and analysis on policies for Deploying Renewables, and is intended to complement the main publication. Opportunities for improvement on the demand side of the energy equation are as rich and diverse as those on the supply side, and often offer significant economic benefits. Both resources must be developed in order to stabilize and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Energy efficiency can also boost the local economy and create downward pressure on natural gas prices and volatility. At the week-long event attendees learn from energy industry experts, policy makers, regulators and industry leading businesses. Government weather forecasters issued that Sandy Hurricane may hit the East Coast by 90% chance. The United States Office of Personnel Management in Washington D.C is closed in October 29–30. Batman and Robin took a new turn with Dick Grayson as Batman and Damian Wayne as Robin with Grant Morrison as writer and art by Frank Quitely, Philip Tan, Cameron Stewart, Andy Clarke, and Frazer Irving.
The new Batman is more sympathetic and kind while Robin is brutal, blunt, and kind of a dick.
The series has had five arcs already: Batman and Robin Reborn, Revenge of the Red Hood, Blackest Knight, Batman vs Robin, and Batman and Robin Must Die. Grayson appears to be a kinder version of Batman while Damian appears as a miniature Bruce Wayne with ‘roid rage.
This arc we get more of the witty banter between the caped crusader and his sidekick with less death threats, but only slightly. Dick and Damian put on their detective caps and search for clues in a way that is easy to understand, however without getting the other issues from the bat-family tie ins it can can be a little confusing. The beginning had chases, mob fights, and raids on the GCPD and was looking to be very promising.
It has new characters and new arcs, new relationships, and a new feel to the ever growing Bat-family.
Believe me, I’ve been there: I lost over 100 pounds with a low-carb diet in my early-twenties, gained it all back plus 30+ pounds interest during a health crisis in my mid-twenties, and finally lost all that weight, this time keeping it off, starting in my mid-thirties. Maybe we started off losing weight rapidly and then our progress stalled, or we are feeling better about our health overall (more energy, clearer skin, etc.) but haven’t seen the results on the scale yet. But, what we do know is that medical research has shown that there is a stronger connection between obesity and lack of sleep than any specific factor related to diet. In fact, following the night owl patterns of late-to-bed, late-to-rise doubles risk of obesity compared to early-to-bed, early-to-rise! Sleeping is an absolutely necessary bodily function for multiple reasons, including memory consolidation, hormone regulation, and muscle toning and building.
When we don’t get enough sleep, our hunger hormones and metabolisms are affected, causing an increase in appetite. In fact, many of us put it last on our To Do lists, prioritizing going out at night, studying, work, Facebook, our favorite HBO shows and almost everything else above actually getting in bed and sleeping. Obesity is just one of the many health problems that to which chronic lack of sleep has been linked.
Lack of sleep increases our body’s’ stress response, which slows our normal metabolic rate. A better question might be “what doesn’t chronic stress do to our bodies?” It can have a severe impact on our immune system, the amount of inflammation in our bodies, hormone health, our sleep patterns, and even the food we choose to eat (see How Stress Undermines Health and How Chronic Stress Leads to Hormone Imbalance). These include giving up (or severely limiting) your caffeine intake, eating a strict Paleo diet, getting outside for your daily dose of vitamin D, getting more low-strain exercise (like yoga, swimming, or walking), playing, enjoying the health benefits of connection, and getting enough sleep. It involves finding the best ways to manage the people, places, obligations, or things that cause us stress. On one hand, I totally get it: the idea is that we should base our progress not on a number, but rather how we feel and look, the fit of our clothes, and our progress in the gym. Unfortunately, technology dictates that we need energy, but the sources of that energy are optional. Oil, coal, and gas are all finite resources as well, which makes them limited in their lifespans as energy sources, and as supplies dwindle, the cost to extract and use them increases in our current supply and demand economic models. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines green power as electricity produced from solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, biomass, and low-impact small hydroelectric sources.
The initial investment was prompted by energy security concerns linked to the oil crises (1973 and 1979) of the 1970s but the continuing appeal of these renewables is due, at least in part, to environmental benefits.
And the industrialized nations of the world are no longer the only major consumers of energy.
Efficiency slows down energy demand growth so that rising clean energy supplies can make deep cuts in fossil fuel use. We know we can’t change the world overnight, but we can make significant changes over time one person at a time.
According to Hurricane center, Hurricane Sandy is the biggest Atlantic hurricane ever recorded. Some media outlets used “Frankenstorm” nickname in their news and it created a big panic in East Coast cities.
The growth in the relationship is quick but easy to understand as well as interesting to read. They deal with new villains while also trying to deal with each other in a comical way that makes you wonder if Damian would actually kill Dick. Morrison also adds a new type of psycho to the villains of the new Batman, who just so happens to be an old villain. However as the story progressed it almost seemed as though the author himself became bored with the story and started making things up. While sketchy at times I firmly believe that Morrison’s Batman and Robin has the potential to be a great series. It was a rocky road, and I hit many plateaus along the way (and I’ve even encountered some since).
Though plateaus can often cause us to beat ourselves up (and maybe even feel like throwing in the towel!), the truth is that any number of underlying factors can cause a plateau. But, there is an even more fundamental reason that sleep is a commonality amongst almost all animals: sleep permits our brains the time to flush out waste products that have accumulated throughout the day (a totally normal part of cellular function) into the bloodstream. As little as one night of 3 or 4 hours sleep causes insulin resistance, dysregulated cortisol, and increased leptin–all hormonal situations that lead to weight gain. Poor sleeping habits actually increase the chance of death from all causes (see Sleep and Disease Risk: Scarier than Zombies!), so there are many reasons to make sleep a priority. Imagine how strong the negative effects would be if the stress caused by sleep deprivation was only multiplied by the added stress from our day-to-day lives!
Chronic stress is different from the acute stress response we experience that causes our “fight or flight” response to kick in. Small things like asking someone else in the house to help out with some chores, meditating for a few extra minutes a day, or finding time to enjoy our favorite activities can make a world of difference. We need it to fuel our transportation, heat our homes, power our computers, phones, lights, and other necessities.
So it is huge that we eliminate our dependance on the fuels, not only for the enhancement of our planet and Eco-systems, but for our own health and well-being, not to mention probably adding more to our pockets and more jobs in the long run.
Customers often buy green power to avoid the environmental impacts of fossil based fuel supplies and its greenhouse gas reduction benefits.
The number of people without access to electricity remained unacceptably high at 1.3 billion, around 20% of the world’s population.

Climate change driven by greenhouse gas emissions – 60% of which derive from energy production or use – is a growing threat. If we all chip in and do our part, we can make for a healthier, cleaner planet to live on, which in turn will improve our quality of life and well-being, and make us and our future generations healthier, and happier!
Both Government of Jamaica and Government of Haiti started a storm watch and turned it to a tropical storm warning. Cnn and some other big channels used “superstorm.” Johns Hopkins University made a research and warned that over 10 million customers will lose electricity. In North Carolina, Blue Ridge Parkway’s some sections were closed by The National Park Service. We also see the creativity in having Dick Grayson, who had become a hero in his own right, step up to the mantle of Batman.
It has a good sense of dividing up the action with the serious problems of the two new superheroes. On top of murdering criminals, the New Red Hood posts his actions on Twitter and if that wasn’t bad enough, people eat it up like kids at a candy store. So fans will love the dynamic between the three heroes as well as the interesting twist it has in the end. However we see the bond begin to grow with Dick and Damian and see that there is more to the little Demon child than meets the eye.
Morrison does a cartoon series finish to this arc, meaning he brings back villains and has an apocalyptic feel to the story. This may be due to DC’s annoying habit of splitting up single stories into six different issues, meaning you have to buy them all for the story to make sense, instead of just buying the one series you like. Plateaus can be a natural short-lived consequence of shifting hormones and metabolism as our bodies adapt to a different composition, resolving on their own with persistence. Once they are removed from our brains and sent into the bloodstream, the kidney and liver can do their jobs as filters and remove or recycle them.
If this kind of sleep becomes a habit (specifically, 5 days in a row with four hours of sleep or less), then a person is said to be in sleep deprivation. I strongly believe that the greatest negative impact on our health is coming from not prioritizing sleep in our lives and just getting our butts in bed at a reasonable hour every night.
If you find yourself asking why you aren’t seeing results even if you are doing everything right in the diet department, it may be time to take a closer look at your sleeping habits! This stress problem is called chronic stress, because it is a low-grade stress response that lasts for days or months (or years!). Ideal cortisol levels are highest in the morning and decrease slowly throughout the day; however, when our bodies respond to stress our cortisol levels become elevated, and the levels can spike late in the day.
In the case of sleep and weight loss, journaling can help to form the healthy habits that are crucial for seeing the results we want. Currently we derive only 13% of our total electricity from renewable sources, and that doesn’t include transportation!
Despite the priority in many countries to increase energy efficiency, global energy intensity worsened for the second straight year. So energy policy was tasked with a new objective: to cut greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining economic growth. Likewise, unless clean energy supplies come online rapidly, slowing demand growth will only begin to reduce total emissions; reducing the carbon content of energy sources is also needed. Electricity companies in various places like New Jersey, called workers to company and prepared them for long shifts.
Also North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue wanted emergency aid for some areas of North Carolina. While being compared to the old Batman he is trying to deal with his young partners attitude problem, the change in costume and character, along with the responsibility of being the head of the bat-family, and being the main protector of Gotham.
With the people leaning towards the new vigilante it is more important for Batman to be the hero and save the day with even more twists and action.
The end of this arc has about everything you could ask for: action, betrayal, danger, and a little slice of mystery for the detective in everyone.
This story starts of with a bang that does peak your interest to find out what happens and is the main drive for finishing the arc.
Morrison does however redeem himself in the later arcs and does prove that he hasn’t lost his touch. But when we don’t sleep properly, the waste products left over from our brain’s daily functions are not properly cleared away, and the waste acts as a toxin to disrupt brain function and increase inflammation.
Studies have shown that someone suffering from sleep deprivation eats substantially more than they normally would (up to 20% more!!). That’s why I’ve worked so hard to develop a comprehensive program to help you fix your sleep.
The tiger that was chasing you, causing your stress response, never stops—because the tiger is work, or school, or your family life.
These spikes can disrupt our sleep cycle, and I’ve already covered all of the ways that can damage your health! For years, I have weighed myself daily in order to get a better understanding of the way my weight fluctuates throughout the day and to have an early indication of a bad week causing a slip in my weight. It can actually take anywhere between 3 weeks and 8 months to form a long lasting habit (the average is 66 days, not the 21 that is urban myth). Currently fossil fuels power most of our energy sources, in the form of coal and oil, or gas. Any serious vision of a SE economy thus requires commitments to both renewables and efficiency. With business interruptions and other problems hurricane caused, damage is over $50 billion. Air Force and The National Guard put 45.000 personnel in alert for duty of hurricane affected states.
Plus, not getting enough sleep also increases the body’s stress response, which affects the body’s metabolic rate (to actually make it lower, because our bodies want to conserve energy). Go to Bed: 14 Easy Steps to Healthier Sleep has just been relaunched and now includes even more amazing tips and tricks to give yourself the best sleep you’ve ever had.
By keeping a health journal for everything from our sleep to what we eat, we can easily hold ourselves accountable and track our progress in more than just numbers. These fuels produce greenhouse gas emissions which is a byproduct of their combustion, which by itself isn’t that harmful, but in the massive quantities we are using it, it is a big problem. Also lots of names like Mitt Romney, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and Joe Biden cancelled their campaign appearances in area.
Morrison creates multiple stories that bend in every direction yet somehow manage to reconnect in, what can only be described as, an epic ending. For more information on the way lack of sleep affects our hormones check out The Link Between Sleep and Your Weight. The program includes a 350+ page guidebook to set you on the right path to sleeping better and improving your body’s overall health. When we have something concrete like a journal to look at and can see how we are progressing, it can be much easier to feel great about all of the progress we made!
The end of the book also not only opens up more adventures for our new Batman and Robin but also opens up to DC’s new series Batman Incorporated. The 14-step program will have improve your sleep in just two weeks and the book even includes comprehensive coverage of troubleshooting strategies and biohacks to solve common sleep problems. Sometimes the path to being your healthiest self is slow going, but keeping a positive mindset and having concrete reminders of that movement—whether in weight, sleep quality or performance—can be crucial.
