Here is a secret little way to purify water using a simple food grade plastic water bottle. Here are ten places you might want to visit based on information from the WHO and the 2013 State of the Air report from the American Lung Association (ALA), as determined by the amount of ozone and long-term and short-term particulate matter in the air. Whether you are looking for an ultra-light and simple gravity water filter for backpacking, or a filter to have around the house in case of a natural disaster, this affordable setup uses off the shelf parts, is easy to make, even easier to use, and should serve you well.
Updated March 2016 – added links to make it easy to purchase the supplies for this project or get more details. Water filter: I chose a Sawyer inline water filter because it was readily available, inexpensive, and had decent reviews. Take care not to let unfiltered water run down the outside of your water tube and contaminate your filtered water.
Reflect on your great decision to make a gravity filter for a few minutes while the water runs down through the filter and into your container. Try not to taunt your friends who are sweating as they pump water through their manual filters, probably slower than your gravity filter.
E39 (1997 - 2003) The BMW 5-Series (E39 chassis) was introduced in the United States as a 1997 model year car and lasted until the 2004 when the E60 chassis was released. Let's see if we can list, describe, locate, and show a photo of every fuse and relay in the BMW E39, so that we all benefit. Below, (from this quest to locate a parasite), is as far as I've been able to get detailing every single fuse in my 2002 525i.

It turns out (later in this thread) that EF1 is the left-most fuse (left being defined by being able to read the MOTOR-SICHERUNGEN (aka "engine security measures") printing on the fuse cover itself). Note: There is a black or white cap enshrouding the five ebox fuses EF1 to EF5, which needs to be removed as explained by RDL in this thread. Neither of these huge fuses is easy to remove or put back (due to the cramped location), but luckily the yellow one is the one aft, which is easier than the red to remove.
Please read the suggested threads and add value, either by pictures or by descriptions, so the next person stands on your shoulders.
Let's annotate the pictures (in the end, we should clean this section up to have only a few pictures with all the relays labeled). To the next person who opens up the ebox, would you kindly look at the wire colors going into one end of the five-set fuse block? This method is approved by the WHO (world health organization) and is in use in many countries around the world. The first 2 filters I made used the filter from a Sawyer model SP140 kit that I found on close-out at WallyWorld.
This is a shutoff valve and quick disconnect kit that lets you connect the output of your gravity filter directly to a hydration pack via the quick disconnect.
Many folks carry these anyway, so adding the filter adapter kit and filtering directly into the hydration pack is a no-brainer. Tie one end of each line to a grosgrain tie point so that you have 2 loops of line to hang the bag from.
The pleats will reduce the diameter of the top of the unfiltered water bag, turning it from a cone to a bag shape.

A loop in the unfiltered water tube can be effective at stopping any drips from running down the tube and contaminating the filtered water. It is nice to know that this service is here for people like myself, who need answers fast and are not sure who to consult. I liked that I could ask additional questions and get answered in a very short turn around. Not only did you answer my questions, you even took it a step further with replying with more pertinent information I needed to know. There is likely a better solution, but I was in a hurry and this is what I could find quickly. The SP140 kit contains the SP121 filter, which is fantastic for bacteria and protazoa, but does not filter out virus. You want the hole to be smaller than the inside diameter of the barb fitting that you will screw in place shortly.
I recommend the SP135 filter, which is similar to the SP121, but does filter out virus as well.
A circular bag has no seams to seal, but is not the most efficient use of the fabric, and will be heavier for the same capacity. Still no Virus filtration, but I’m told that in North America the risk of picking up a virus from water is statistically insignificant. You can also get a Sawyer water purifier filter with a bucket adapter kit, if you think  you may need to purify larger quantities.
