Technically, this is an advanced picture book beautifully illustrated and written by Kadir Nelso. Mudville is not just a baseball book but reads like a retold fable and a modern classic with a twist of magical realism. I haven’t read the Dan Gutman baseball books, only his Wayside School books which are a little odd (but in a good way) so I see why a parent would want to screen them a little, especially if their kids are on the younger side for his books.
Since baseball season is almost upon us (Spring training in Florida begins next month!), I’m gathering my favorite baseball books, too.
Multicultural Children’s Book Day Jan 27thMulticultural Children's Book Day is January 27th! My seven-year-old (nearly 8!) and I have been enjoying the Tales of a 6th Grade Muppet series by Kirk Scroggs. I had posted on Spawn of Diary of a Wimpy Kid so I brought in a selection of chapter books to yoga (we do yoga together) and gave her a brief synopsis of each one. 1) Plug her blog called Picky Kid Pix in which she reviews the few items in her life that make her cut. During my parent teacher conference, his teacher told me that my son was reading well and had a good vocabulary.
I do find this irritating, so periodically I ask him what a word means as I come across it in the story or ask him what has just happened in the chapter book. We’ve made our way through every word that Rick Riordan has ever written in this manner.
I think it’s very cool how the Percy Jackson series and the Kane Chronicle series collide together.
Like all the other Half Magic series books, it is very good and cool how they can use magic with the magic turtle to go on adventures. It is a very good story about a girl named Fern, her pig Wilbur and a spider named Charlotte who helped Wilbur to become famous. My son doesn’t seem to gravitate towards much non-fiction lately so I make special note when one comes home from the school library. I am an Amazon affiliate which means if you buy anything through my blog, I get a very small kickback at no cost to you. I know that void one feels when you’ve finished your last Rick Riordan book and realize that you have to wait years before the next one is published!
Cool Mom recently posted…Our Book Blasty Tour comes to an end, but the giveaway is still going! I think that movie trailer of Thor got my son interested in the advanced picture book about Thor. K-Gr 2-These titles offer independent readers imaginative stories, an opportunity to build vocabulary, and memorable characters.
In an unusual twist on the school field trip theme, a second-grade boy named Sam manages to take the class hamster along on a visit to the science museum. Did you know 90 day finance are they still married has become the hottest topics in this category?
Do you know outdoor furniture new plymouth nz is one of the hottest topics in this category?
It might even inspire them to look at baseball equipment from Homerun Monkey and start playing baseball immediately.

Yes, it’s true in Mudville that it rains every single day and has for years due to a fairly recent Indian curse until one days it stops. He loved Diary of a Wimpy Kid which I think is one of the best early chapter books for kids to get them excited about reading, but alas, a new one needs to come out or reading will be a nightly struggle. Now, we are working through Harry Potter and after that, we’ll finish the last four books of the Half Magic series. Example: make blubber, find the sweet spot on a baseball bat, and how to grow a plant in a glass jar. My 3rd grader doesn’t read so much action adventure, but he did really like Timmy Failure. Enabling JavaScript in your browser will allow you to experience all the features of our site. So when his class takes a trip to the science museum, Sam decides to bring along something extra .
Mildred, which is about overprotective parenting, has the thinnest plot, but the endearing illustrations encourage readers to keep turning the pages.
The hamster, George Washington by name, has the distinguishing trait of frequent sneezing, which proves critically important when George Washington is dropped into the museum's hamster display and must be retrieved.
Today, I have some chapter books for you to enjoy that are just in time for Valentine's Day.
When the girls are making their own stuffed animals someone slips a mean valentine into Bess' animal's pocket and she blames George.
The Oldest Diva enjoys the color illustrations in these books and they are quick, easy reads that are perfect for those just getting into chapter books. It was popular with my 3rd grade students when I was teaching that particular grade so I decided to hive it a try with the Oldest Diva. Some are more advanced than others, so I’ve tried to point out the easiest chapter books. A lot of kids (boys especially) reading books at the early chapter book level also love non-fiction.
The A to Z mysteries is a super-popular series about a team of kids solving mysteries, one for each letter of the alphabet. The younger siblings of the kid detectives in A to Z Mysteries get their own mysteries to solve, but instead of by the alphabet, mysteries happen monthly. An old lighthouse in Maine is the perfect setting for a few thrilling mysteries, don’t you think? If your kids aren’t quite ready for the real Nancy Drew, my son has given these his seal of approval. This is a wonderful series about a clever, spunky girl detective who solves neighborhood mysteries. When Harriet’s dad tells her that she has five missing aunts, all with unique talents, she is determined to find them and sets off pedaling her circus wagon on an offbeat adventure. Also from Alexander McCall are two books about siblings who learned their sleuthing skills from their parents who just happen to be international detectives. Olivia Sharp is  just as adept at solving mysteries as her more famous cousin, Nate the Great. Nancy Krulik is the author of several other early chapter book series, including Katie Kazoo, Switcheroo and my oldest son has really enjoyed all her books.
The author of the A to Z Mysteries penned this series about two friends who solve mysteries in Washington, D.C. He also really liked the Houdini Club series by David A Alder (think they are out of print). They are very early chapter readers, but that’s where we are right now, so they are perfect. I am a big fan of Dan Gutman and I’m happy to know his baseball series is so popular.
The boy being shoved in a closet by gangsters, almost being shot in the head by gangsters, divorce of his parents, a drunk father, a few nude scences in which the young boy in the story enjoys. She is a teacher herself and feels that children and reading can be a struggle in the early elementary school years.
Another good part was when Sammy the bully was desperate to get on the only place that was safe from the Zombie Apocalype and promised that he would be nice to them. When she finished reading House of Hades she gave it 22 stars (out of 5) – I guess she liked it (?). We read together all the time and I am always looking for good book recommendations for him. Second Grade tells of a boy who sits next to the class hamster and the trouble that ensues when he decides to take it along on a field trip. Lots of humorous details add to this mid-level easy reader's appeal, and the story will be enjoyed by newly independent readers as well as serving as a read-aloud in any classroom (or home) with a hamster as a pet. Besides these delightful easy readers about Room 75, Katharine has written The Dream Shop, Eggs Over Easy, and many exciting nonfiction books for children. In this book, Nate's dog Sludge gets a secret valentine and Nate sets out to uncover who it's from. The characters aren't "typical" they may or may not be monsters, etc which makes this a different and fun read for kids. Now your kids can enjoy the all-important detective novel with this list of early chapter book mysteries for kids transitioning from early readers to longer novels!

Buddy has been adopted from the pound, but he continues to search for his original family and what happened to them. At first Milo is uncertain that Jazz will be a good partner, but they end up working well together. Each book has several self-contained mysteries that are intended to be solved by the reader.
If your child loves non-fiction, introduce him (or her!) to Ballpark Mysteries.  It was inevitable that my 8 year old sports-lover enjoy this series with loads of baseball and ballpark facts woven into each mystery.
Missing dogs, anonymous valentines, stolen Easter Eggs: these are the high profile crimes the juvenile gang needs to solve. This series is better for kids on the older end of this reading level because some might find it a bit scarey, although no doubt others will find twins Jen and Jake’s adventures delightfully spine-chilling. Does it seem like every early chapter book series has an episode about a missing dog, or is that just me?  Also available for the Kindle. There are a ton of books in the series to satisfy your kids and keep them reading should they take a liking to good ol’ Nate. Olivia, however, is quite well-to-do and her arsenal of problem solving tools includes her personal chauffeur.
Jack’s detective super-power is that he can talk to animals to help solve the mysteries that come his way.
Also, I’ve only read the first book of the series Goofballs by Tony Abbott, but I plan to share it with my son soon. We took this picture from the web we believe would be probably the most representative pictures for rustic coffee table.
We took this image on the internet that we feel would be one of the most representative photos for 90 day finance are they still married. We got this image from the net we feel would be probably the most representative images for outdoor furniture new plymouth nz.
We put our heads together for reading strategies to make reading for kids more fun, especially for her son! After a visit to the planetarium, the wind tunnel and other sites, Sam takes the hamster to the Animal Zone. First introduced in Big Max (HarperCollins, 1978), this title's star is a clever detective who dresses like Sherlock Holmes and travels via umbrella a la Mary Poppins. Carter's expressive watercolor illustrations help bring the kids in room 75 and their furry pet to life. This was a fun read for my daughter who is usually in a squabble of some sort with her sister. In order to be a sweetheart she has to be super nice even to those that aren't so nice to her.
Every book is set in a different ballpark, where a pair of 9 year olds combine sleuthing with baseball fan-dom.  Also available for the Kindle.
When you’re done with letter Z, you can turn to A to Z Mysteries Super Editions for more fun. Four orphaned siblings live with their grandfather and solve mysteries at home and on vacation.
Like the Nate books, these are perfect for the youngest beginning chapter book readers and could be considered easy readers. My son has really enjoyed the Brixton Brothers series by Mac Barnett, The Saturdays Quartet by Elizabeth Enright, the Humphrey the Hamster series by Betty G. When she's not making a racket in the kitchen, she stays busy illustrating many beautiful picture books and early readers.
There is always just enough twists that it's not completely obvious but if you pay attention to the clues - you can figure it out. The adventure here is cute as Nancy learns that matchmaking is hard and things don't always work out as planned.
This wasn't a typical Valentine's Day themed read but it was sweet and it introduced us to a character and a series that we will surely be reading more of in the future. Strange things are happening and everyone is being overly nice to each other - even the mean kids. Fans of Marjorie Weinman Sharmat's "Nate the Great" series (Delacorte) will enjoy this whimsical mystery. He gets reading time at school and takes his book back and forth each day which helps us move through the book. Beginning readers will be motivated by these clever tales and pore over the imaginative illustrations.-Laurel L. This was a fun read and Junie is pretty funny as she tries to figure out which boy left her the valentine. The next day, Sam suggests they move George Washington's cage to the front of the classroom. Expressive faces and clues in the illustrations of this "An I Can Read Book" will encourage emergent readers.
The humor in the story and illustrations is just right for the reader who has developed some proficiency in reading.
