Bear Grylls stars in this adrenalin-fuelled series for ITV in which the adventurer takes a group of celebrities into the depths of one of the most unforgiving Central American rainforests, where they will be competing in an epic 12-day survival mission. To stay alive they must navigate impossible terrain, build shelter, make fire and eat food that nature provides. In programme four there are six celebrities left and this time they are going deeper into the unknown.
But the jungle is taking its toll, one of the celebrities is suffering from mosquito bites while another has trench foot, requiring treatment from the Mission Survive medic. Bear shows the celebrities how to burn the hairs off the taranatulas’ legs to make them safe to eat. Their next mission is to use their rope skills to safely navigate the tight spaces and waterfall descents within the cave system, keeping a look out for snakes, spiders, bats - and dinner, which Bear has left somewhere inside the caves. The delighted celebs, looking forward to a hog roast, carry the pig through the rest of the cave system, then gut it in a nearby stream. The following day starts with a helicopter transfer towards the Pacific Coast, to the largest river in Costa Rica - the Tempisque. Eight celebrities face a 12-day survival mission unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before.
Seven celebrities battle through the wilds of Southern Africa on an uncompromising 12 day survival expedition.
This year the expedition team confronted more terrifying challenges than ever before: surviving dangerous animals, facing a dizzying arsenal of high-octane survival scenarios and travelling further across the mountains and down to the coast. The novices faced hunger, sleep deprivation and tasks designed to test their ability to adapt and survive in the wilderness.
Bear set the celebrities daily missions, as they journeyed under the watchful guidance of expedition leader Meg Hine and former commando Scott Heffield.
The 6 x 60 series was commissioned by ITV’s director of entertainment and comedy Elaine Bedell and entertainment commissioning editor Peter Davey.
Downton Abbey takes on Doctor Who at the 2016 National Television Awards (NTAs) in what could be a last hurrah for ITV’s popular series.
Created and written by Julian Fellowes, it features on the shortlist for the drama category where it will also go up against BBC One Saturday night staple Casualty and the second series of ITV’s Broadchurch. Winning the NTA for drama would cap off a remarkable year in which Downton was the subject of a Bafta Tribute and honoured with a special award back in August.

ITV will broadcast the star-studded event, hosted once again by Dermot O’Leary, live on January 20.
Contenders range from 18th century-set Poldark, notable for star Aidan Turner’s shirtless scything, to the chronicle of a disintegrating marriage in Doctor Foster. Poldark’s Aidan is up for drama performance alongside David Tennant in Broadchurch, Sheridan Smith in Black Work and Suranne Jones as the vengeful Doctor Foster.
An intriguing scenario sees Top Gear battling Gogglebox in the factual entertainment category. Ant and Dec lead the TV presenter category, with competition from Graham Norton, The Great British Bake Off’s Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins and, in his first ever NTA nod, Rylan Clark-Neal. But the much-loved pair face stiff competition from The Graham Norton Show and ITV2′s panel show, Celebrity Juice. An interesting clash in the challenge show category sees The Great British Bake Off, the most-watched show of 2015 for Nadiya Hussein’s win, pitted against MasterChef.
Coronation Street, which killed off Callum Logan in a live episode, battles EastEnders where a special live week revealed Bobby Beale bumped off sister Lucy. Viewers can also vote for Emmerdale, in which a helicopter crash caused mayhem, and Hollyoaks in which the Gloved Hand Killer was unmasked.
The contenders for serial drama performance features EastEnders actor Danny Dyer and fellow Albert Square star Rakhee Thakrar.
The explosion of streaming channels is reflected in a brand new international category, which sees Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black take on Game of Thrones and E4 comedy import The Big Bang Theory. From abseiling down ferocious waterfalls, crossing perilous rapids, trudging through swamps and eating rats and scorpions; this is an epic journey in the jungles of Costa Rica. Half way through Bear’s mission, the celebrities are starting to toughen up and getting used to life in the raw.
Bear meets them and offers them breakfast, providing a medicinal boost before sending them into the caves - a big dose of zinc. Bear’s lieutenant, Scott Heffield, provides some on-the-spot treatment but in the morning Bear will have to make an assessment to decide whether or not the trenchfoot warrants an early exit for the celebrity. They were literally yanked out of their comfort zone from the get go by a helicopter using a Special Forces insertion technique and thrown into survival mode. At the end of every episode Bear sent home the person who least displayed the qualities of a survivor: positivity, resourcefulness, courage and determination. They had to work hard and face their fears every day, and for some of them it was just too hard both physically, mentally and emotionally. One minute youa€™re innocently lighting birthday candles with your gun-shaped lighter, and the next a wounded Simon Cowell is dramatically falling down the stairs and everyone thinks YOU pulled the trigger. There might come a day when wea€™ll all turn around and think, a€?You know what, Sinitta was really onto something when she fashioned those palm leaves into an outfit.a€? But until then, we can only look on in confusion. The group reflect on the experience so far, as they work to create fire and shelter and cook the pig. But the river is home to more than 2,000 crocodiles and avoiding them means crossing where the water is at its fiercest.
