It is written about a grid down scenario resulting from an EMP.  I try to prepare myself for disaster, because bad things happen!
The second book, Surviving Home, has Morgan finally making it back to his family, and covers the interactions with his neighbors and how they deal with the catastrophe. The third book of the series, Escaping Home, finds Morgan and his family facing martial law, a complete breakdown of society, and only two options, struggle to stay in your prepared home with enemies knowing your location, or move to an unknown, more secluded location. Some of the grammar was off (and this coming from a West Virginia Hillbilly!) Also there were a few editing issues. So much that after getting into the second book, where supplies were starting to run short, and neighbors were starting to do ANYTHING to get food, while coming home after work, I would stop buy the local big-box store and buy a 25 pound bag of rice, take it home vacuum seal it, and put it away. I also put up several other long term storables, partly because timing was right (sales and such) and partly motivated by these books.
Just so you are aware, I was in no way given any compensation for doing this review, other than being given personal electronic copies in order to read the books listed. Need something from Amazon (and who doesn’t)? I earn a small commission from purchases made when you begin your Amazon shopping experience here. Well, I sure would like to win the books since Amazon is charging $3,399.00 for each, no kidding, I just looked them up since I rarely win anything. What will happen next, I know it’s a story so it can and will go for the best out come. I am a total bookworm, so I’ll read pretty much anything I can get my hands on and find some enjoyment. When Morgan Carter’s car breaks down 250 miles from his home, he figures his weekend plans are ruined. Now reunited with his loving wife and daughters in this follow-up to Going Home, Morgan knows that their happiness is fleeting, as the worst is yet to come. With the help of his closest companions, Morgan fights to keeps his home secure—only to discover shocking information about the state of the nation in the process. Meanwhile, the enclosed quarters of the nearby government-run refugee camp make for an environment where injury, assault and murder are the norm.
Against all odds, Morgan Carter and his family have endured despite the deteriorating conditions surrounding them. Synopsis"They survived the collapse, but can they survive the aftermath?" Morgan Carter has weathered the weeks after the collapse of the nation's power grid, reuniting with his family and ensuring their safety, but his struggle isn't over yet.

Exploring all aspects of self reliance, disaster preparedness, survival, and simply being ready for both good times and bad. As the veneer of civilization peels away, and society breaks down, so does the neighborhood.

I found time enough to run through all three of the book in less than two weeks, where any other reading of this length would have taken at LEAST twice that. You should be able to read the first 6 pages, along with several others throughout the book to get a feel for it.
There are those excellent classic survival books like One Second After and Alas Babylon that pretty much spoil you for lesser prepper fiction. But my recommendation for these books is unqualified – I absolutely loved everything about them. As violence erupts around him, Morgan Carter faces one of his most difficult decisions yet: whether to stay and defend his home, or move to a more isolated area, away from the prying eyes of the government. Carter must focus on survival in an increasingly unstable society—but the challenges he faces are beyond his wildest imagination.
As Jess creates trouble within the camp, Sarge and his crew plot to take down the entire establishment.
Armed with survivalist tactics, Morgan’s crew, alongside their new friends from the recently-liberated DHS camp, have worked together to build a sustainable community. Carter must focus on survival in an increasingly unstable society--but the challenges he faces are beyond his wildest imagination.
American (book 2 of the Survivalist series), Morgan Carter is back home with his wife and kids, but it’s not the end of the story. When Morgan Carter's car breaks down 250 miles from his home, he figures his weekend plans are ruined.
After the collapse of the nation's power grid, America is under martial law - and safety is an illusion. Carter must focus on survival in an increasingly unstable society - but the challenges he faces are beyond his wildest imagination.

American. Going Home has the main character, Morgan Carter, several hundred miles from home when an EMP hits, stranding him. Morgan’s actions are believable, and the explanation of the equipment and methods used were not too technical to lose me.
The formatting on the Kindle had a few wonky bits, with some of the page formatting being off.
There is no electricity, no running water, no Internet, and no way to know when normalcy will be restored—if it ever will be. He and his family are hesitant to leave their beloved Lake County, but with increasingly suspicious activities happening in a nearby refugee camp, all signs point towards defecting.
An avid outdoorsman, he has a spent considerable time learning edible and medicinal plants and their uses as well as primitive survival skills.

If you reside in an EU member state besides UK, import VAT on this purchase is not recoverable. Following the collapse of the power grids in the United States, survivalist Morgan Carter and his family must learn how to adapt in a world without electricity, running water or very many of the things modern society is accustomed to and perhaps taking for granted.
And then, I was bummed because I hadn’t purchased the second book to read on the way home. He currently resides in Florida with his wife of more than twenty years and his three daughters.
There is no electricity, no running water, no Internet, and no way to know when normalcy will be restored - if it ever will be. It covers much of his tactics without being too technical, as well as how he deals with the people he meets along the way.
My only REAL problem (and a selfish one at that)  was that I was rather unhappy as I neared the end of the third book, I realized it was NOT the last, and I now have to wait for any continuation. While I was away, I ordered the next 3 books so they’d be waiting for me upon my return. Evil people become free to do the things they probably always wanted to, but feared arrest when times were good. From the author of the hit Survivalist Series books, "Forsaking Home "is an action-packed adventure that depicts the harrowing possibilities of a world gone awry, and the courage it takes to protect what matters most.***NATIONAL BESTSELLER*** Book 4 of The Survivalist Series "They survived the collapse, but can they survive the aftermath?" Morgan Carter has weathered the weeks after the collapse of the nation's power grid, reuniting with his family and ensuring their safety, but his struggle isn't over yet. But while he fights to his own security, he discovers something truly shocking about the state of his country.
I can wholeheartedly imagine that I’d let some 4 letter words slip in some of the circumstances the characters find themselves in, and the cursing seems very much in line with the characters and events.
American's first novel, Going Home, listeners were introduced to Morgan Carter, the resourceful, tough-as-nails survivalist who embarks on a treacherous 250-mile journey across Florida following the collapse of the nation's power grid.
The plot continues to be brilliant and original, with less named brand supplies and more military involvement. From the author of the hit Survivalist Series books, "Forsaking Home "is an action-packed adventure that depicts the harrowing possibilities of a world gone awry, and the courage it takes to protect what matters most.Book 4 of The Survivalist Series They survived the collapse, but can they survive the aftermath?
There is strong language peppered though it, lots of gun violence, minor sexual innuendos and lots of hungry, beaten down folks and others who take advantage of them. Writing skills remain pretty basic and there are more than a few flaws an editor should have caught and cleaned up. However, I like this series and was pleased to be back with the family and friends scattered between the "refugee camp," Sarge's military group and the camp along the river as they harvest food from nature. He lightly covers issues such as sanitation (what happens with no TP and how to make soap), alternate food sources (including how to skin a squirrel), depression post event and formation of extended groups for mutual benefit.
