New research highlights how to shift compliance training from 'tick in a box' to creating a culture of compliance.Keeping up with the ever-changing regulatory environment is a constant challenge in almost all industry sectors.
At Penn State-Brandywine, librarian Nina Clements partnered with Earth Sciences Professor Laura Guertin to use Zotero as a teaching tool in the classroom. As the higher education association for librarians, ACRL supports academic and research librarians as change leaders in their campus communities through programs like Assessment in Action: Academic Libraries and Student Success (AiA). We invite you to join alumni and friends of the library leadership programs offered by the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education (HIHE) for a program and reception during the upcoming American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Boston. Over the past few years, there has been a proliferation of high-profile funders announcing policies requiring greater access to research articles and data. This language is historic: For the first time in half a century Congress has underscored the importance of effective school library programs by expressly including them in multiple parts of this watershed reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
Ellen Hampton Filgo of Baylor University used Zotero in her work as a liaison librarian to keep track of faculty publications and research interests for outreach and collection development purposes. The more than 200 participating AiA teams are contributing to innovation in higher education assessment by creating approaches, strategies, and practices that document the contribution of academic libraries to the overall goals and missions of their institutions.

However, many programmes fail to achieve their potential, despite high levels of investment.

By structure I mean, the umbrella of services and guidance ACRL provides both broadly for academic libraries (such as the recent conversations stimulated by the creation of the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education) and for various specialties (such as the Science and Technology Section relevant to my science librarianship). The free demo and user group meeting will highlight key capabilities including peer group comparisons, built-in report templates, and export capabilities. My curiosity of legal designs and the law stirred an interest in copyright law as it relates to the academic community; I have initiated copyright literacy efforts for the college and am presently drafting a copyright education plan to support and further develop these efforts. By establishing strategic goals and workable plans, I have been attempting to make our library an integrate part of our campus efforts that aim to increase the rates of student retention and graduation and collaborate with STEM educational exertions. It provides an insight into the drivers, benefits, skills and technologies used by the sector. Attendees will also learn about the Framework Advisory Board Action Plan for providing resources to support and encourage librarians in their use and understanding of the Framework.
In particular, I’d like to see ACRL and its members work with academic administrators to design a reasoned and workable communication and rewards structure for higher education. We review the strengths and weaknesses of implementation practices, as compared with top learning organisations who are achieving the highest impact from their implementation of learning technologies in the workplace. For example, despite setting impressive goals, our research shows that across a reference set of 19 drivers for investment, the average number achieving the benefits they seek across the sample as a whole was only 31%. Sadly, both librarians and political scientists are also used to being the targets of short-sighted and politically-motivated funding cuts. But this is also met with a continued lack of budget spent on technologies that learners find useful.

However, many programmes fail to achieve their potential, despite high levels of investment and a greater increase in training budget than most sectors over the last two years.Ambition in this sector to deliver tangible business results from learning programmes remains high. Despite 65% operating in multiple locations in one nation and a further 23% with an international presence, their use of learning technologies in particular dramatically lags behind.MSBs are tech-enabling less of their formal learning than the sample average and significantly less than top learning organisations. The most notable increase in this sector has been in the desire to use technology-enabled learning to help implement new processes or new products.
The higher achievers (19% of the sample) are those consistently reporting successes against four or more of the key drivers. Both allocate similar amounts of budget to the use of learning technologies, but the implementation strategies of higher achievers are significantly different.
