Jetstar Japan has taken delivery of its first aircraft, with the first of a planned fleet of 24 Airbus A320s handed over in Toulouse this week. The 180-seat A320 is the first of an initial fleet of three Jetstar Japan will use to commence services with from July, initially linking Tokyo Narita with Kansai, Fukuoka, Sapporo and Okinawa. Everyone goes on about this outsourcing of maintenance but forget its to Singapore, one of the most advance countries in the world. And, please, would commentators who criticise outsourcing of certain maintenance functions on any mainline carrier do their research first before going into print as per Oliver Cooksey’s remarks earlier. My concern with all of this is, if the Qantas 744 was maintained by the Avalon team, and still had an issue, why do they keep claiming that the offshore maintenance is unsafe?

Australia’s fourth KC-30A Multi-Role Tanker Transport has been formally handed over to the RAAF, though the aircraft will remain in Spain for testing until later this year. Deliveries of the tanker, based on the Airbus A330-200, began last year after a two year delay. The fourth aircraft was converted from standard A330 configuration by EADS in Spain, where it served as the development aircraft for the KC-30 program (during which it lost a boom during testing in early 2011).

Support aircraft include a RAAF E-7A Wedgetail and a Singaporean Gulfstream G550 CAEW platform. The reference to Avalon is correct, the 747 heavy maintenance is done there, except the overflow, when the program is log jammed with work.
Just think how tired the A380 cabins (in particular) will be once the A330 rollout is complete. I know that even after being declared combat ready, there is more work to do with this critical program, but the Air Force, Air Combat Command and the men and women of Hill Air Force Base should be proud of this major step forward for the F-35A.
