But in addition to training correctly, your food choices make a vital contribution to your weight loss goals as well. The fastest digesting form of protein is whey, derived from milk and widely available as a powder that you can mix with water or milk. Satiety is critical here because these foods keep you full and satisfied for longer without a lot of calories. The first step is to clean out your kitchen and remove most processed foods that are calorically dense but nutrient poor.

If you’re like many of us, you’ve probably tried a brutal calorie-restricted diet at some point. If you’ve noticed that chowing down on packaged foods or meals from chain restaurants just leaves you hungry, you’re not alone. Over hundreds of thousands of years, the forces of natural selection tweaked and perfected your physiology to function optimally on a diet consisting mainly of wild plants and animals — vegetables, meat, and occasional fruits, nuts, and seeds — which are naturally high in fat, protein, and fiber and low in carbohydrates.
A plate of real food — like fresh veggies, fruits, nuts, and perhaps a bit of pasture-raised meat — contains the protein, fiber, healthy fat and micronutrients your body needs to satiate your appetite. Everything here (well, almost everything) is what I consider a “real food” – so stick with these foods to feel great.
I’ve worked hard to shed 30 pounds over the last 18 months by running and eating better. I try to have it right when I wake up, then pound down a good amount of water while I get ready and stretch. Running tends to really dampen my appetite and I have to make sure that I eat enough to maintain a decent weight.

Fighting through incessant cravings with shocking self-control, you may have even shed a few pounds. Most of the “diet” foods we eat today, and certainly the meals you find at fast food restaurants, are designed to be as addictive as possible to keep you coming back for more. Just because something is gluten-free, sugar-free or dairy-free doesn’t make it good for you. If you feed it foods that are nutrient-poor, your brain and body will never really feel totally satisfied. So next time you feel hunger pangs, stop depriving yourself and fill up on real food, instead.
Also just chopping up fruit and vegetables and storing them accessibly in your fridge really makes it easy to grab them instead. Through calorie-restricted crash diets, for every three pounds of fat you lose, you also lose one pound of muscle. In fact, most products with the marketing claims I just mentioned are low-quality processed foods disguised as health foods. The key is to feed yourself real and fresh whole foods that are high in nutrients and satiate your hunger. But because we simply are not built to handle the massive amount of carbohydrates in the foods we eat today, our bodies readily converts them to sugar to be stored as fat. So if you’re constantly hungry and feel like you’re wasting away, here’s how to fill up, while steering clear of meals that derail your progress. Eating this food distorts your appetite and causes you to consume more calories than you require. Losing fat while feeling full has more to do with filling up on the right things, rather than simply avoiding the junk. Even more devastating, most food from packages and chain restaurants are built around high-glycemic carbohydrates that produce a rapid increase in blood sugar levels.
