Operation Jade Helm 15, a military training exercise, began Wednesday in 12 Texas counties. Politicians across the country jockeyed to get a piece of the "Jade Helm 15" action after Gov. But what's lost in all that noise is the training exercise itself: how service members plan to execute it and what the military aims to accomplish. An Army release about the training exercise in March described “Jade Helm 15” as a routine, multi-state operation taking place from July 15 to Sept. The release also stated that communities hosting the exercise could expect economic benefits from the Army’s fuel and food purchases and hotel lodging. But in terms of staging, plans for the training exercise have apparently changed significantly since that statement was issued in March. The most detailed information available on the training exercise itself comes not from either of those releases but from a slideshow prepared by US Army Special Operations Command. The slideshow explained that the exercise would involve Army special forces in addition to Navy SEALS, Air Force special operations command, Marines special operations command, and the 82nd Airborne Division. Tom Meade, an Army spokesman and retired Green Beret, explained in the accompanying audio presentation why "Jade Helm 15" is considered an "unconventional warfare" exercise.
Those slides, which are not included in the presentation posted by WTAW, were widely cited in conspiracy theory blog posts on "Jade Helm 15." While the conspiracy theories themselves lack real evidence, there’s something to the concerns about soldiers blending in with the general population for the purposes of the training exercise.
A realistic military training exercise took a deadly turn in 2002, when a Moore County, North Carolina sheriff’s deputy pulled over what he thought was a suspicious-looking truck and shot two soldiers, killing one and wounding another. Separately, Reason magazine's Jesse Walker, writing in a Los Angeles Times op-ed, pointed to a 1999 exercise in Oakland, California that posited the "Jade Helm 15" conspiracy theories were an extreme manifestation of the current backlash against police militarization in the U.S.
By Stefan Stanford - All News Pipeline - Live Free Or DieWith Jade Helm 15 having gone viral across the internet, US Army Special Operations Command is having to push back against 'alarmists claims' that we're actually witnessing 'martial law-style' drills according to Stars and Stripes while 2 more states, Florida and Mississippi, have added exercises to their states that will include 'surgical strikes' and 'extractions' according to a news conference addressing Jade Helm 15 included in the 1st video below for you to hear for yourself.

When Jade Helm 15 originally broke on the internet, government trolls and the uninformed immediate pounced all over the comment sections of websites reporting the story, calling it false, made-up, fiction, and videographer Lorri Anderson addresses the trolls in the video below, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Jade Helm 15 exercises are 'real' via the words of Jade Helm Operations Planner Thomas Meade who tells us himself that additional operations will be held in Florida and Mississippi in addition to the other 7 states previously reported.
Bob Welch, standing at left, and Jim Dillon, hold a sign at a public hearing about the Jade Helm 15 military training exercise in Bastrop, Texas, Monday April 27, 2015. But in some right-wing circles, Jade Helm 15 is a mission in which the Obama administration, in conjunction with the U.S. Some of you might be thinking that conspiracy theorists are going to feel pretty foolish when Jade Helm 15 comes and goes without any of the fears coming to fruition, but alas, right-wing politics doesn’t work this way. California, Colorado and Nevada were all initially reported to be hosting parts of the exercise -- and were depicted on a map “leaked” by conspiracy theory website All News Pipeline that labelled Texas as “hostile” territory -- but are no longer involved. Local radio station WTAW made available both the audio and visual presentation that Army representatives gave to the Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas in February while seeking their approval for the training exercise. The soldiers were participating in an exercise similar to “Jade Helm 15” known as “Robin Sage” and had believed that the sheriff’s deputy was playing a role in the operation, too. That 2002 incident led the Army to immediately alter the way it conducted that exercise, including ordering participants to wear their uniforms and ending the practice of allowing local law enforcement officials to role-play alongside the soldiers.
Army Special Operations Command will take point on a large-scale training exercise in Texas — or if you believe some fringe outlets, they'll take point on the Pentagon's preparation for civil war.Jade Helm 15, as the exercise is called, will run through Sept. Interestingly enough, the US military is unable to view websites reporting on Jade Helm 15 due to their sophisticated firewall which prevents them from accessing 'truth' websites.
For the American mainstream, it’s a forgettable date marking the start of a routine military training exercise. Defense officials announced months ago that this training exercise would kick off on July 15, and cover much of the Southwest. Greg Abbott (R) felt the need to order the Texas Guard to “monitor” the military exercises – just in case.

Rather, when the exercise wraps up in September, the right-wing fringe will assume that the Obama administration would have hatched its dastardly scheme, but conservatives prevented the crisis by raising a fuss. From the Stars and Stripes story:Officials at USASOCM were not able to immediately verify the authenticity of the (Jade Helm 15) slide show because their computer firewalls prevented them from accessing the websites where the document appeared. Texans waded into the fever swamp of conspiracy theories surrounding the training exercise in recent weeks and took some of their elected representatives along for the ride. According to a trusted ANP source, when such exercises lose the element of surprise, they must be modified or scrapped all together. Mark Lastoria.USA TODAYConspiracy theories flourish over military exercise in TexasThe months leading up to Jade Helm were peppered with various conspiracy theories on fringe websites.
Greg Abbott responded by publicly assigning the Texas State Guard to keep an eye on Jade Helm. This includes news of Jade Helm 15 drills in Florida and Mississippi  as well as news on 'surgical strikes and extractions'. Abbott also reaffirmed the state's history of support for the military — a reason the Army cited for choosing the state to conduct the exercise.
Lastoria cited "the scope and scale and complex nature of the training exercise," which he said was not uncommon among training exercises."We look at all request for media visibility, and grant when and where possible.
