Guy Fawkes Night, or Bonfire Night, as we normally know it, is a great celebration for adults and children alike. There are a number of important baby safety considerations to keep in mind if you plan on getting out to enjoy the fireworks. If you are attending fireworks, be sure to provide ear protection, even if you are seated away from the worst of the noise.
Whether at home or about, Bonfire Night often presents bedtime challenges for parents and disrupt baby routines and sleep patterns.
If you are out and about, be sure that you have a place where baby can sleep away from the worst of the noise from the crowds and fireworks. A late nap can help with babies and children who will be staying up past normal bedtimes to celebrate. If you are at home and plan to forego the festivities, you can still give your baby a good night’s sleep with ear protection.
If your child under 7 years of age is afraid of people wandering the streets dressed as ghosts and goblins.  Do not worry, you are not alone. When your child has experienced Halloween and the outcome of it was frightening and scary for them.
From personal experience, last year Halloween (October 2011), my husband answered the door to trick or treat children who were dressed up as ghosts and scary monsters.
Night Terrors are very different from Nightmares.  Every child’s experience of a night terror differs, but usually they can not be woken from sleep, they may scream, thrash about, sit bolt up right in bed, sweat, act upset and may not recognise you when trying to comfort them. Night terrors occur when a child’s sleep transitions from the deepest phase of (non-REM) sleep to lighter (REM) sleep, a phase where dreams occur. Prior to bed time – Same as the nightmare preparations, ensure your child is relaxed and stress reduced to minimum. Repetitive night terror – If the night terrors occur frequently and at the same time every night, you may find that waking your child breaks the cycle.
For most children, nightmares and night terrors happen only now and then so there is no cause for concern.
It doesn’t take long as parents of babies or toddlers for the one question to come up “Is your baby sleeping through the night?” Some parents brush the question off by saying everything is fine and some dive into a long story of their child’s sleep habits and their ultimate frustration.
I know how painful it is to go through sleepless nights with a child as I went through it myself with my first daughter, she’d wake up crying every hour demanding to be fed. When I got home that day I went on the internet and started researching everything I could about getting babies to sleep, I found Canadian, world renowned sleep expert Dana Obleman, and with her help and guidance that night for the first time ever Jannah slept for seven hours straight without waking! Sleep is so important to me that I decided to make a career of it, a big change from a career in the city! The latest research shows that 84% of children who are experiencing sleep problems will continue to have them for up to 5 years.

As the title says, it’s all about how to avoid nightmares in children, particularly around Halloween when they may come across some things that frighten them.

Let me explain, Halloween originates from pagan festivals held annually around the end of October in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. The likely result at bedtime will be a nightmare, which are unpleasant and terrifying dreams. Unfortunately our Daughter was behind him and saw them, she was very frightened and witnessed this just before her bedtime. After a nightmare your child may or may not go back to sleep easily depending on their age and how scary the dream was.
Two Hours before bedtime – Do not let your child watch, read, listen or participate in activities which will disturb them or get them over excited, as this will form the basis for their night’s sleep. After a nightmare – Listen to what your child has to say when they explain the dream and tell you about the monsters. Acknowledge their fears let them know you believe and trust them. Do not fret or worry, so long as your child is in a physically safe environment they are not in any danger or harm and will not have any memory of their behaviour the next morning. Between sleep cycles your child wake’s briefly, then usually self settles and goes back to sleep.
If you are able to awaken your child, they are likely to be disoriented and confused, therefore taking longer to settle down and go back to sleep.
This can disrupt their sleep pattern enough to stop the attacks without affecting sleep quality. Sleeps All NightLike no other baby milestone, a full night of sleep becomes the Holy Grail for new parents.
While it is unrealistic and unhealthy to expect a newborn to sleep all night, parents can rest assured that relief will come soon. Around 5 or 6 months, most babies can sit up with support -- either by resting on their hands in front of them or by leaning on pillows or furniture. By 9 months, most babies crawl using both hands and feet, though some babies never crawl, preferring to creep or wriggle instead. Crawling is not an essential baby milestone, and infants who choose to scoot or creep still tend to reach other milestones on schedule. Waves 'Bye-Bye'Waving "bye-bye" is not just a cute trick -- it is an actual expression of language. They understand that waving is connected to the phrase "bye-bye." Eats Finger FoodJust when spoon-feeding begins to lose its luster, babies are ready to feed themselves.
Between 9-12 months, babies develop better control over their hands and fingers, making it easier to grab small objects -- like finger foods! Unfortunately, babies this age love to explore taste and texture, so food is not the only thing they'll try to pop into their mouths. They also take small steps while holding onto furniture or other objects, an activity called "cruising." In the weeks or months before they walk independently, babies may spend hours cruising to practice for the real thing. Perhaps no other moment is met with more anticipation (or camera clicks) than a baby's first step on his or her own.
The normal range is anywhere from 9 to 17 months, with most babies taking at least a few steps by about 13 months. Dada!" There's nothing like hearing your baby call your name, and it usually happens right around the one-year mark. By this time, most babies can say at least one real word and actively try to imitate others.
