As an athlete herself, she understands the mindset and emotions involved while training and preparing for competition. In 2012 she graduated from Life University, and has since then completed the post-graduate curriculum to become a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) through the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians.
While earning her Doctor of Chiropractic degree, she was a founding member of the school’s cycling team. She has served on the medical team for the “Rugby for Heroes” tournament here in Atlanta, the US 10K Classic, the AJC Peachtree Road race, and the Atlanta Marathon. To serve UH students interested in sports administration by enhancing their education through the promotion of networking, experiential learning and academic excellence. Lauren Cortjens enjoys working with athletes and individuals of all abilities, ranging from the part-time athlete and weekend warrior to elite professional and Olympic competitors. Her practice is devoted primarily to the treatment and prevention of athletic injuries and she is a certified Active Release Techniques (ART) provider for the treatment of soft tissue related conditions. As an enthusiastic member of the triathlon community she enjoys helping athletes prevent injury, train efficiently and recover quickly after competition utilizing ART.
She continues to push her limits as a competitive triathlete and distance runner; completing distances from sprint triathlons to Ironman. Cortjens is a Full Body Certified in Active Release Techniques Provider, a Full Body Certified Fascial Distortion Model Provider, a Crossfit Level 1 Trainer and a Crossfit Endurance Trainer . Cortjens earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Georgia State University where she was a member of the schools Division I softball team, and earned conference all-academic honors all four years.


In 2011 she began competing in ultra-marathons, and has just completed the Tahoe 200 miler (Click here to read her story).
She was also a founding member of the school’s triathlon club and an avid runner on campus. She spends her weekends mountain biking, trail running, and supporting friends at local races whether or not she is competing herself.
