I can’t say for certain which fat burners they use down on the West Coast, but I wouldn’t be surprised if more than a few use Jim Stoppani’s new Shred JYM.
Thanks to his reputation as a supplement guru, and a unique selling proposition centered around transparent ingredient labels, it’s easy to see why Stoppani’s JYM line has become so popular. However, just because a fat burner works for one person doesn’t mean it will work for everybody.
Shred JYM stays fairly on-brand in its product description, using ingredients as the basis for benefit claims. Other purported benefits of Shred JYM that can be attributed directly to ingredients include the ability to increase metabolism and improve fat burning, which you get from the green tea extract and synephrine. Both green tea extract and synephrine are well-researched, and shown to help with weight loss.
Shred JYM does have effective weight loss ingredients, but I wish it had something like mucuna pruriens for mood support.
The thermogenic effect for me wasn’t very strong, meaning I didn’t feel like my body temperature got as hot with Shred JYM as it has with other fat burners. But overall, between the green tea extract, synephrine, acetyl-l-carnitine, and caffeine in Shred JYM, you’re going to get a solid weight loss supplement with effectively dosed ingredients. Just make sure you take it knowing it’s not going to affect your central nervous system as strongly as some of the other fat burners out there. I’m a big fan of elastic-resistance training (which is why I created my JYM Strength Bands) and an even bigger proponent of cardioacceleration, so why not combine the two? The following workout is a bands-only routine (plus some bodyweight moves) that’s great for when you don’t have access to other equipment or if you just want to switch things up.
The workout is broken down into five different exercise groups, each focusing on particular upper-body muscles – chest and back in the first two groups, shoulders in the third, biceps and triceps in the fourth and abs in the fifth group – while incorporating legs and full-body movements as the cardioacceleration component. The intention of this workout is constant movement, so keep rest to a bare minimum – not just within specific supersets, giant sets and cardioacceleration periods, but also between body-part groups. Repeat these exercises three times, then move on to the next group of exercises with minimal rest. Repeat these exercises five times, then move on to the next group of exercises with minimal rest. Repeat these exercises four times, then move on to the next group of exercises with minimal rest. If you follow my supplement advice then you likely know that I am a firm believer in the benefits of boosting nitric oxide (NO) levels. Boosting NO levels is very beneficial for cardiovascular health since it relaxes blood vessels, allowing them to widen.
Relaxing or dilating the blood vessels also helps to deliver more blood flow to tissues like muscle fibers. Relaxing the blood vessels also delivers more blood below the belt… if you know what I mean, ahem.
The main NO-boosting supplements on the market today utilize the arginine-nitric oxide pathway. That is the pathway where arginine is converted in the body to nitric oxide (NO) with help from the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS), which catalyzes the reaction. Yet there is another pathway that can lead to higher NO levels in the body, the nitrate-nitrite-nitric oxide pathway.
Supplementing with nitrates, usually by consuming beet juice or taking a beet (beta vulgaris) extract has been shown in numerous studies to enhance exercise performance. The performance benefits from beets, however, is not just due to the enhanced blood flow they provide. Researchers from the Karolinska Institutet studied biopsied muscle cells in men who received a nitrate supplement for 4 days and then performed a stationary cycling exercise test. Numerous studies confirm that supplementing with beetroot juice or nitrates significantly lowers blood pressure, even in healthy adults with normal blood pressure.

Supplementing with nitrates, such as from beet extract can help to boost NO levels and increase your training intensity, reduce workout fatigue, increase muscle endurance (that not only means you can run farther, but means that you can complete more reps with a given weight), can help you recover faster between sets, and help you lift more weight. Consider supplementing with beet extract by taking about 500 mg of beet extract or looking for supplements, such as preworkout supplements that provide beet extract along with supplements that utilize the arginine-NO pathway, such as arginine or better yet, citrulline.
A recent study found that using an antiseptic mouthwash such as Listerine killed off a significant number of the bacteria in the mouth that convert nitrate into nitrite. Now after the launch of the post-workout Post Jym, Stoppani has released word of a fourth product. So here’s my complete and updated Shred JYM review, to help you decide if it’s worth a try.
For example, the claim, “help to carry more of that fat into the mitochondria,” is one of the main functions of the first ingredient acetyl-l-carnitine. Synephrine, also known as bitter orange extract, is a compound which increases metabolic rate and stimulates fatty acids to be release from cells so they can be burned as energy. If you’re looking for an effectively dosed fat burner that’s not heavy on stims, then Shred JYM is definitely the way to go.
A review of the human clinical studies involving Citrus aurantium (bitter orange) extract and its primary protoalkaloid p-synephrine Int J Med Sci. Body weight loss and weight maintenance in relation to habitual caffeine intake and green tea supplementation Obes Res. It also serves as an effective alternative to cardio, targeting all the major muscle groups in the body and incorporating such training techniques as supersets, giant sets and cadioacceleration to keep intensity high and your heart pumping. Quite frankly, this workout will kick your glutes, but trust me, you’ll appreciate the fat-burning benefits and the cardiovascular adaptations when it’s over. This keeps your blood vessels functioning properly and prevents them from getting “stiff” as we age. The greater endurance and energy is due to the fact that pushing more blood to working muscles delivers them more oxygen and more nutrients. Supplements such as arginine, citrulline (is converted in the body to arginine), and pycnogenol (increases the activity of NOS) all utilize this pathway. The majority of studies reporting performance benefits from nitrate-rich beetroot juice also reported a reduction in oxygen cost.
They reported that the mitochondria of the men’s muscle cells were able to make more ATP (the energy currency of the cells) with less oxygen. Research also shows that the nitrates in beetroot juice can also enhance blood flow to the brain to help improve brain function and fight off cognitive decline with aging. One of the best times to supplement with them is anywhere from 30-120 minutes before workouts. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of oral L-citrulline and L-arginine: impact on nitric oxide metabolism. Dietary nitrate reduces muscle metabolic perturbation and improves exercise tolerance in hypoxia.
With 200 mg of caffeine I didn’t feel jittery or like my heart was going to jump out of my chest. It has well-researched ingredients, and provides a clean energy that doesn’t make you jittery. The result is a brutal workout that builds power, strength, aerobic conditioning and muscle mass while torching body fat. It enhances muscle pump during workouts due to the fact that the blood is more than 50% water. The researchers found that men receiving 500 ml of beetroot juice were able to exercise at a high intensity on a stationary cycle for more than 90 seconds longer than when they took a placebo. That means that they were able to perform at the same intensity or higher, but while consuming less oxygen. Although they are unsure of the precise mechanism, they found that a reduction in the amount of a specific protein important for mitochondrial energy production.

Another time would be about 30-120 minutes before sexual activity to improve sexual performance. So if you’re using beets or a beet extract product to increase NO levels, consider ditching the antiseptic mouthwash, at least before taking any nitrate source. Acute l-arginine supplementation increases muscle blood volume but not strength performance. Dietary nitrate supplementation improves team sport-specific intense intermittent exercise performance. Nitrate supplementation’s improvement of 10-km time-trial performance in trained cyclists. Dietary nitrate supplementation reduces the O2 cost of walking and running: a placebo-controlled study.
Dietary nitrate supplementation enhances muscle contractile efficiency during knee-extensor exercise in humans.
Dietary nitrate supplementation reduces the O2 cost of low-intensity exercise and enhances tolerance to high-intensity exercise in humans.
For females it increases clitoral blood flow, and research shows that females getting better blood flow to the clitoris have more enjoyable sex and a higher sex drive. After all, a recent study on arginine, reported that subjects consuming arginine 30 minutes before a biceps workout increased biceps blood volume during the workout by over 100%. When you consume nitrates, such as from beets, bacteria in the mouth reduce the nitrate to nitrite, which has the chemical formula NO2-.
That means it makes the body more efficient and that can allow for greater exercise endurance.
So it may be that the nitric oxide or the nitrate itself is influencing gene activity to provide these benefits.
To keep his loyal followers interested and informed, Stoppani has uploaded the facts panel of the fat burner revealing a six piece formula of tyrosine, green tea, acetyl-l-carnitine HCL, caffeine, synephrine, and the trademarked Capsimax. With greater blood flowing to the muscles there is more water that the muscle cells can draw into them, resulting in a bigger muscle pump.
And citrulline appears to be an even better NO booster than arginine itself, as research suggests that taking citrulline results in higher blood levels of arginine and NO than taking the same dose of arginine does. A multitude of other studies have further confirmed improvements in exercise endurance and the ability to maintain exercise for longer during intense exercise. While some experts feel that the muscle pump has no true physiological significance, the truth is that it can lead to long-term muscle growth. The nitrite then travels to the bloodstream where it is further reduced (loses another oxygen) in the body to nitric oxide, with the chemical formula NO.
The only things that appear to be missing from the Shred Jym announcement are it’s directions, price, and launch date.
This is due to the fact that the bigger muscle pump places a bigger stretch on the membranes of the muscle cells. This stretch signals chemical reactions that instigate long-term muscle growth by increasing muscle protein synthesis. But until something more official pops up, we will leave you with Shred Jym’s facts panel below. Letting you know right down to the milligram what Stoppani’s weight loss product has to offer.
