New Jersey's Office of Clean Energy began taking applications for its residential solar rebate program Wednesday, September 1, after a four month hiatus, inaugurating a new distribution system that avoided the problem they had in May when they ran out of four months' worth of solar rebates in a day.
By Thursday night, the office had received 477 applications for the third cycle of grants in their renewable energy incentive program. Homeowners and solar installers are limited to three residential applications per business day, additional applications can be submitted for public or non-profit projects. The Board of Public Utilities said the Office of Clean Energy will continue to accept applications until all the $6.65 million in grants are committed. Last May 3, more than 1,000 people, including some contractors who camped out the night before, claimed $6 million in residential and $1.5 million in non-residential one-time payments when the Office of Clean Energy opened.
The rush of applications has been spurred by New Jersey's plan to phase out upfront rebates for homeowners in favor of market priced incentives called solar renewable energy credits that are traded on special exchanges. Where micro markets are installed, Atlantic Vending typically sees a 150 percent to 200 percent revenue increase over traditional vending, Kupselaitis said.Jeff Kells and Dean Critchlow started Atlantic Vending in 1992 as a traditional vending machine company, and now have about 5,000 machines in about 2,000 workplaces across New Jersey.
For one thing, more employers want to encourage health and wellness among their employees. In June, Atlantic put a micro market at the Robbinsville distribution center of Grainger, a supplier of repair and maintenance products.
Regina Lederman, human resources manager for Grainger, said the company's "first concern is our team members, and we always want to provide healthy options in regard to food.
