Tag mentions of people in email

Your task is to read from English email text and tag parts of the text that
refer to people – including proper nouns like “John” and expressions like “my
older brother.” You will be presented with text from the Enron Email Corpus
(made available to the public after the company's legal investigation) and
asked to identify spans of text that correspond to two simple categories of
person expressions. These categories are “person_named” and “person_unnamed.”

"person_named" refers to any person referenced by their first name, last name,
or initials. This does NOT correspond to names within email addresses. Also,
this does not include the "'s" in possessives.

              -----

Hey Steve, let's go out for lunch.

              -----

That Andrew W. K. concert was awesome.

              -----

Are you coming to T. J.'s birthday party?

              -----

“person_unnamed” refers to any person referenced indirectly without using
their name. This does NOT correspond to pronouns like “him,” “her,” “they,”
      or “them.”

              -----

My boss wants me to work late.

              -----

She's snobbier than the the Queen of England.

              -----

Say what you will, but I think the man's a genius.

              -----

Note that there may be multiple tags in the same sentence for the same person:

              -----

John likes to talk big, but deep down inside he's just a big softy.

              -----

      Tips:

      1) When in doubt, go with your gut and make the best guess. Making a bad
guess is still better than making no guess at all.
      2) When you can, always tag the largest contiguous span of text.

Finally: you do not have to highlight mentions in the email headers, e.g. "To:", "From:", or "Subject:" lines.

Please select a span of text on the right.

If you are having trouble selecting, try double-clicking then dragging. The interface only allows entire words to be selected at once.

We're still working out bugs in the system. If you have any issues -- especially a bug where the "Remove" button doesn't work -- please tell us in the comments. Make sure to let us know what web browser you're using. Thanks!
