CHI's Professor Sandra Jones said the campaign would use two different sets of images and messages, one, which appeals to adults who know they have asthma and another for those who have symptoms but don't necessarily recognise them as asthma. Professor Jones said many people with asthma struggle to self manage as well as they should and that uncontrolled cases can have serious consequences.
Professor Jones also mentioned that almost 10% of older adults in the Illawarra have asthma and suffer greater health impacts than younger people in terms of mortality, health-related quality of life and difficulty in self-management due to other existing health conditions. The 'Get Your Life Back' campaign will run for three months and include bus shelter advertising along the Wollongong 'Green Bus' route, poster advertising at Stocklands Corrimal and Shellharbour, 'back of toilet door' advertising in shopping centres and clubs, postcards and posters in pharmacies, GP surgeries, leisure and recreation facilities and postcards dropped in mailboxes.
