What is to follow is a  compendium  that has been culled from J BH Mareydt's journal and sketchbook notes. It is hoped that this will and offer a more insightful look behind the machinations and vital issues that concerned the artist and his work.

His research  and artwork dealt primarily and accorded with, a great deal of spiritual teachings and wisdom from various illuminated personages/traditions, as well as emerging facets of consciousness in the historical record. The artist himself had no pension for writing, and instead translated experience into the realm of visual artifacts. What follows may be seen as an artist's statement of sorts, dealing with recurrent thematic issues, or least an artistic laundry list, and is in no way definitive.

Increase Your Awareness

Painting Enigmas and the Integral Unconscious

JBH Mareydt’s art is enigmatic—and integrally so. His works are collage-like in composition, juxtaposing diverse imagery, while also incorporating a wide range of abstract idioms. Signification is generated in a manner not unlike that of dreams images as analyzed by Freud in Chapter 6 the Interpretation of Dreams—associations, displacements, and condensations. But unlike Surrealistic works, Mareydt’s art does not simply reference the individual or collective unconscious, but far more profoundly causal Source itself. This is an art that invites what we might call the Integral Unconscious of Spirit -- inclusive of the individual and the collective, all kinds of states, perspectives, and more—to come forward, from the unmanifest to the manifest, into more explicit Awareness; a coming forward of meaning and sense that can never be completed or exhausted, a profound and deeply meaningful art evincing the Unknowable that is Mystery itself.
