In the space of a year, Warsaw’s burgers have gone
from fast food to slow food quality. We meet the people
behind the city’s new gourmet craze
t’s 11.50am on a Friday. A crowd of hungry young professionals and
hipsters are circling Warburger, a little black-and-white cabin in a
leafy northern pocket of Warsaw. Inside, an energetic duo are bustling
about, organising grass-fed beef patties, sliced Mimolette cheese, bacon,
jalapeño peppers and freshly baked buns. In ten minutes, the first of the midday
masses will be chowing down on the city's latest foodie fad: gourmet burgers.
Warsaw is currently reaping the benefits of a culinary coming of age, with
restaurants embracing high quality food and an adventurous philosophy. But it’s
the classic American hamburger that has captured this city’s heart with a slew of
brand new burger joints popping up in the last year. But with so many contenders
vying for the burger supremacy, the question is: how do they all stack up? Armed
with extra napkins, we take an eat-and-run tour of the city’s best burger bars.
