Lublin for Christmas
Wizz Air’s London-Luton to Lublin
route begins 18 December, on Monday
and Friday, just in time for Christmas.
Market stalls around Lublin
Old Town
will be selling traditional crafts,
mulled wine and sausages. As the
city’s year-long celebration to mark
the centenary of US composer
John
Cage
s birth ends, performances by
young musicians during the autumn
will determine the three finalists for
the finale concert on 8 December. See
our story on page 42.
Eating and drinking
As the nights draw in, where better to
enjoy traditional Polish cuisine such as
grilled turkey in sauce or pork knuckle
than at the
Sielsko Anielsko
(
Rynek
17,
sielskoanielsko.pl), the birthplace
of noted 19th-century composer
Henryk Wieniawski? Soups, pastas
and chicken dishes can be enjoyed in
the informal, music-focused
Czarny
Tulipan
(
ul. Grodzka 1, czarny-
tulipan.pl).
Getting to the centre
A local train connects the airport with
the main railway station just south
of the city centre; the journey time is
approximately 15 minutes.

Strolling the Retiro
Now that the summer heat has been
replaced by the crisp autumnal air, a
stroll around the
Retiro
on a clear
day is a must (Metro: Retiro). The
park, in the southeast of the centre,
is home to a host of entertainers,
musicians and food stalls. Be sure
to enjoy a boat ride on the lake,
and afterwards check out the bongo
players by the lakeside statue. Perfect
for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Eating and drinking
For cheap eats you can’t better

Gloria de Montera
