Within a few hundred metres you’ ll also
find two busy garden bars with year-round
parent venues nearby: the Köleves kert
and the Ellátó kert. Heading towards
the centrepiece square of Klauzál tér, on
the corner you come across bar of the
moment, the Kisüzem, mainly because it is
the most recent one to have opened. Here
original art brightens the bare brick. A few
hundred metres away, the Ellátó has been
a fixture of District VII nightlife for over
a decade, and can provide the ideal start
or finish to any Jewish Quarter bar crawl,
either a kick-start local pálinka grappa or
a somewhat blurry nightcap in an upstairs
chill-out zone.
Wesselényi utca is similarly well
facilitated for bars, beginning with the
Garzon, cleverly decked out to resemble
the kind of 1970s’ studio flat it was named
after. Pick of the bunch, though, is still
Szóda, a savvy, two-storey venue of soda
syphons and manga art, with a party space
downstairs and generous opening times
until 5am. Budapest...covered.
