“YOUWON’T
FIND A
BETTER
SERBIAN GRILL
AND DJ VENUE
ROLLED
INTO ONE”
– DJ MIKIKEVER
ABOVE & BELOW LEFT:
SAMPLE THE SERBIAN
GRILL AT 400
Miki Keve, aka DJ MikikeveR,
came up to the capital from
his native Dunaújváros. He has
been mixing in Budapest for
more than ten years. Many of
his regular venues are around
the city’s District VII, including
the 400.
“It all started with the
Szimplakert, which set the
tone and style about ten years
ago. Places have come and
gone but the Szimplakert has
always been a fixture. District
VII is perfect because venues
are so close together, it’s easy
to hop from one to the other.
Now it’s summer, some of
these venues have gardens at
separate locations. Winter has
a completely different vibe here.
Right now the real underground
place is the Kisüzem, though
they tend to have live music
rather than DJs.”
DJ MIKIKEVER
irregular seating and squeaky floorboards
exudes the same laid-back mood common
to this type of neighbourhood bar – table
service is rare and the drinks menu is
chalked up on a board over the bar.
A bar crawl can quickly be mapped out
but half the fun is getting lost. Sticking to
winding Kazinczy utca alone, you’ ll find at
least five bars worth writing home about.
With its busy outdoor space open from
May, and named after its considerable size
in square metres, 400 combines the talents
of four key players in Budapest’s bar
industry. You won’t find a better Serbian
grill, place for big-screen football and DJ
venue rolled into one. Across the street,
Mika Tivadar is another DJ haunt with a
real party atmosphere, beneath the high
ceilings of a stylish turn-of-the-century
