herself, in a parlour-like atmosphere.
Also close by beside the park, the
Retrock team has been working with the
LollipopShop & Artspace, offering casual
clothes and accessories for parties, and a
real Budapest take on funky streetwear.
Until Stylewalker, only the initiated
have found the limited-series textiles and
jewellery of Eventuell. Here a team of 12
Budapest designers collaborate to produce
a colourful array of unique cushions,
lamps, bedspreads and textiles, some
custom-made.

leading from the tacky tourist traps of
focal Váci utca. Delve deeper into District
V – ideally the little hub behind Astoria
around the fenced-off pocket park of
Károlyi kert – and you find Retrock. Initially
from Szeged, pioneering Retrock has a
bright, contemporary take on clothing.
With a razor blade motif and the motto
‘Cutting Edge Fashion’, Retrock presents
one-piece creations and recreations from
cast-off materials. Róbert Libor and Klára
Erdelyi recycle military outfits, sweatshirts,
even old clothes they find in the flea
markets between Szeged and the Serbian
border, and create something completely
individual. There’s a small workshop in situ.
Turn the corner into Henszlmann
Imre utca, and you find Retrock Deluxe,
Retrock’s smarter sister. Here a more
Retrock founder Róbert Libor
has a team that includes sales
assistant Anita Jankovics.
“I started at Retrock five
years ago and have been
working at Retrock Deluxe for
the last three. They’ve both got
a core customer base but here
at Retrock Deluxe it’s a different
kind of client. Given the
downtown location, both attract
plenty of tourists and students
from the nearby university are
always at Retrock.
It’s kind of tucked away, hard
to find, so it has that cachet.”
