Sofia is in love with the best kept
secrets and many of the most
interesting eating and drinking
spots are hidden away. The city is
teeming with hidden bars, cafés
and shops, tucked in unlikely places
from car parks to shopping malls.

And finally...
Sofia is a great city for late-night
partying and can be easily navigated
on foot. With street signs and maps
using alphabets interchangeably,
however, it’s best to splash out for

The Vardar Ekspress airport bus runs
to the main bus station 5-8 times per
day; tickets are 100 denars (€1.60).

Lake Matka

Treska Gorge
can be reached by bus
and make for a perfect day out; walk
around monastery buildings here and
admire the steep gorge walls. There

summer festival is
mid-June to mid-July, with concerts,
theatre, ballet, opera and exhibitions.

Getting to the centre

transfers between the airports (both
Ciampino and Fiumicino) and Rome
city centre (Termini Station). The cost

and €6/€12 return to/from Ciampino.
