Getting to the centre
Wizz Air flights arrive at Kiev’s
recently revamped downtown airport
Zhuliani. Mini-buses and trolley-
buses for the city centre depart from
outside the airport regularly. A taxi to
the most city centre destinations will
cost around 120 hryvnia (€10).
A slice of the city
Kiev is one of the main host
cities at this summer’s Euro 2012
championships and is expected to
be awash with foreign football fans
throughout June. Sweden, who are
scheduled to play all three of their
group matches in the Ukrainian
capital on 11, 15 and 19 June,
are expected to bring the largest
contingent. The Euro 2012 final is
played in Kiev on Sunday 1 July.
Eating out

homage to Belgian beer is likely to
be extremely busy during Euro 2012,
but it is worth aiming for as a spot
where you can enjoy matches live on
flatscreen TVs.
Lyon Wine Bar

and stylish new joint is nestled
just off Kiev’s central boulevard,
Khreshchatyk. It is tipped to serve as
something of an upmarket oasis from
the throngs during Euro 2012.
City suggestions
Bring your flip-flops, as Kiev’s city
centre beaches will prove one of the
biggest hits of Euro 2012. Visitors
will find Kiev’s beaches social places
that offer an almost Mediterranean
buzz throughout the summer. The
huge Swedish fan camp on downtown
Truhaniv Island
– which offers sandy
beaches within walking distance of
Independence Square.
And finally…
Visitors should make sure they
experience the Ukrainian its metro
transport system. As well some of
the steepest escalators and deepest
stations in the world, the network,
which only got going in the early
1960s, is also a great place to escape
from the sweltering summer heat.
