A slice of the city
Krakow is the only major city in Poland
not hosting matches for the Euro
2012 football championship, so those
seeking respite from the madness
can enjoy relative calm. Why not try
something completely different at the
International Festival of Jewish
Culture
(29 June – 8 July), with
exhibitions, workshops, and several
concerts throughout the Kazimierz
district. www.jewishfestival.pl
Eating out
With its outdoor patio protruding
into Planty Park,
Pod Wawelem
at Sw. Gertrudy 26-29, is great in
the summertime. Order up a huge
schnitzel and a litre of beer and enjoy
the live band perform their jolly tunes
late into the night. Smacznego!

City suggestions
Don’t leave Krakow without a visit to
Wawel Castle
, the city’s pride and
joy, and a stunning spot for a bit of
historic exploration. Finish off your
castle visit with a relaxing walk along
the nearby Vistula river, which has
seen several restaurants and bars pop
up in recent years.
Plaza Kraków
(right) is the city’s top riverside club,
great in both sunshine and under
moonlight. www.plazakrakow.com.pl
And finally...
Katowice is well-known for its fine
examples of modernist architecture.
Check out the quirky
Spodek
, an
arena best known for its UFO-like
appearance, now 42 years old.
