Getting to the centre
We provide a point-to-point,
low-cost bus transfer between the
airport and Bucharest city centre. The
cost is €5/€10 return.
A slice of the city
During weekends in June and July
Bucharest comes out to play only at
night. The raging heat means that the
city’s party scene has to start very
late, before continuing through until
breakfast time the next morning.
Eating out
The Old Town/Lipscani area is one
huge terrace in summer and the
courtyard of
Hanul lui Manuc
(Strada Franceza 62, +40 (0)21 313
1411, www.hanulluimanuc.ro) – a
19th-century inn – is one of the best.
Try the Tripe Soup for 17 lei (€3.80),
the Revolutionary Salad for 16 lei and
you can’t argue with Well-Tempered
sausages at 36 lei (€8). Around the
corner at Strada Sepcari 16 (+40
(0)372 77 3999) is the much newer
Lacrimi si Sfinti
, run by one of
Romania’s best known poets and
raconteurs. The baked mackerel is a
steal at 25 lei (€5.50).
City suggestion
A host of big names in music are
playing Bucharest this year, many
– including Pulp, Garbage and
Royksopp – at the city’s biggest
outdoor music festival:
B’EstFest
Summer Camp
(above), 6-8 July, in
the north of the city. www.bestfest.ro
And finally...
Summer in Bucharest means two
things to locals: grilled mici (tangy
pork and mutton meatballs) and sprit
(white wine with sparkling water).
Don’t leave without enjoying both.

Getting to the centre
Buses into town are on half-hour
intervals and tickets are 1 lev(€0.50).
Taxis are 10 to 14 levs (€5-7).
A slice of the city
The city thrives in the summertime
with a great clubbing scene alongside
its tranquil backstreets.
Eating out
Head to the
Silver Club
on
Slaveykov Square for al fresco
chilling on outdoor sofas and stylish
surroundings. Grab your seat early
during the weekends as it gets very
busy as the evening begins.
City suggestion
Every year in July there’s a
three-week festival dedicated to
opera and clasical music in memory
of
Emil Chakarov
, the famous
Bulgarian conductor.
And finally …
Bourgas Art Gallery
holds
numerous lectures and concerts. The
exhibitions present the best of its
2,000 works. www.bourgas.net/art/

Eating out
If you’re in Chatelain, try sustainable
cuisine at
Tan
, above an organic shop
at rue de l’Aqueduc 95 (www.tanclub.
org) with well thought out dishes for
around €18. For cheap grub on the
go, you can’t beat double-fried frites
at
Frit’Flagey
, a hut on Place Flagey.
City suggestion
April showers? Go to
C.ramic Art
Café
, a pottery painting workshop-
cum-bar with a laid-back vibe at rue
Lesbroussart 112 (www.cramic.be).
And finally…
Grab seven people and get a shared

as the bus but much quicker.
