FORGET THE SKIS –
LET’S PARTY!
Fly to: Grenoble
Dance festival Mix Mountain
will be returning for a second
snowy year in
La Plagne
,
France, from 28 January to
1
February. Thanks to the
massive 425km of pistes in
the Paradiski area, clubbers
shouldn’t waste any time
before checking in at noon for
the renowned French house
and electro DJs, including
Gregori Klosman (he’s worked
on remixes for Lady Gaga),
Mathieu Bouthier and Tristan
Garne. They’ll be hitting the
decks and banging out the
tunes at sizzling barbeque
sessions on the slopes.
Following this, the party will
be continuing into the early
hours down at the Hotel Club
Lauzière (la-lauziere.com) in
the Montalbert area.

SNOWBOARD HEAVEN
Fly to: Basel
The O’Neill Evolution, one
of the biggest snowboarding
competitions in Europe, once
again descends on
Davos
,
Switzerland, from 7 to 13
January (oneill.com/evolution).
The crowd-pleasing halfpipe
and slopestyle contests take
place just in front of the Bolgen
plaza (bolgenplaza.ch) at
the base of the Jakobshorn
ski area, so spectators
needn’t watch shivering on a
mountainside. Instead, take in
the action from the comfort
of the nearby La Onda bar
with a warming
glühwein
before joining in the daily
post-competition parties in the
marquee. And those inspired
to try it can scoot off to the
nearby ski lifts to try out their
skills on the mountain, which
offers 320km of pistes here and
among the five other resorts.

MAKING TRACKS
Fly to: Milan
Snowshoeing is a more sedate
way to explore the mountains,
and the Italian resort of
Cervinia
caters well for such
hikers. Snow is a sure thing at
this high-altitude resort in the
northern Aosta valley, within
90
minutes of Milan. It has an
abundance of specially tailored
and marked trails, all with
fantastic views of the toothy
Matterhorn peak that straddles
the Swiss border. Highlights
include an intermediate 6km
trail in the Breuil-Cervinia up
to the Cime Bianche Laghi
(
or get there on the state-of-
the-art Plateau Rosà cable
car), and a slightly gentler
3
km hike through the forests of
Cieloalto. If you’re not going it
alone, the Guide Del Cervino
(
guidedelcervino.com) has
guided excursions including
romantic, torch-lit night walks.
