Therearealmostnowomendirectors in
thefilmbusiness.Thathasalwaysbeen
true.Therehavereallybeengainsmade in
Europe, and inotherplaces—andcertainly
in television.Butmainstream features
are the lastholdout.That ischangingvery
slowly.
Iam looking forward to thedaywhenwe
won’tneed to lookatquotasandstatistics,
because that isnoway tocontrol anart
form.Controllinganart formbysaying this
ispartof thepopulation— that isnotgoing
towork.But it isagoodcommunication
tool forbringing things to lightabout the
disparities in termsofmedia.
When Iwasakid, therewereno females

Ididn’t thinkwhen Iwassixyearsold
thatdirectingwassomething that spoke to
me. Ididn’t think thatwomenwereallowed
todirect; Ididn’t think therewouldeverbe
awomandirector. So it’s time forpeople to
face to that.
Whatdoyouhopeyourkidshave
learned fromyou?
Thegoodnews is, I feel likemykidsare
already themselves.Theyarealreadyon

Mygreatestexpectation is thatwhen
