Mimi Ledo
FASHION DESIGNER
Born in Saigon, Mimi left the
country as a refugee at age 11
to join her father in Montreal. In
her new life in the new country,
she grew up making clothes and
shopping, eventually making a
career of it at the age of 27. In
2007,
Mimi founded her own
line BoAime (
,
setting up a workshop in Saigon to
create luxury Bohemian collections
for women. The brand is now
carried at Macy’s private label,
Bloomingdale’s and Anthropologie.
Her fans include Cameron Diaz,
Victoria Justice and other famous
faces in the entertainment industry.
Mimi’s designs range from
elegant silk dresses to plush
cashmere and bamboo creations,
and she also contributes a portion
of her profits to UNICEF each year.
I had the idea to contribute to
society by providing work at the
very start and using organic fabrics
and natural processes,” she says.
The young designer is leading
the way for responsible fashion
brands, but where does she get her
inspiration? “From travels to Bali,”
Mimi says. “I love the people and
the energy. They’ve got a special
touch for details.”
When she’s away from her
worktable, she can be found at
Xu, where the fashionable and
beautiful come together at sunset
to drink the inspired lychee martini
or the strawberry glacier.
