Richard Whybrow
FURNITURE MAKER
Having made his name in mosaics,
Richard Whybrow, the founder
of SacredEarth Vietnam (
sacredearthvietnam.com
)
exports
his beautiful contemporary mosaic
furniture to 26 countries. The long-term
Saigon resident is known for his 18-
hour working days as well as his joie
de vivre.
I came here 20 years ago, when
I was in my 20s, and the pace of this
city just keeps getting faster,” says
Richard. “Saigon is gaining ground as
an epicenter of international business,
attracting people from all walks of life.”
When the occasion suits, Richard
likes to take his client meetings to
Vesper, named after James Bond’s
favorite drink. This new addition to
Saigon’s nightlife has been received
with open arms and hungry stomachs,
and boasts ex-Cepage chef Andreas
Ertle. “Its open-plan space gives us
all a chance to catch up easily. The
bar snacks, like the pork belly and the
tempura chicken wings, are some of
the best food you can have anywhere.
I come here most days. I’m convinced
some of my clients have become
friends right here.”
