Sari Kurisu
MILLINER
The 29-year-old head designer of
Saigon’s only millinery is inspired by
things that make her happy and it’s
not difficult to find yourself grinning
when you step inside her store Shoko
(
maenababy.exblog.jp
).
All around
the shop hang hats made from linen,
cotton, silk and although it still attracts
mainly Japanese tourists, the shop is
slowly gaining a following amongst
locals in the entertainment and fashion
industries. “The Vietnamese don’t wear
hats for fashion, only to block the harsh
sun,” Sari says. Outside Vietnam, they
also have a following with Japanese
celebrities like the popular sister duo
Charan Po Rantan. The list goes on to
include trendsetters and those in the
creative industry.
When it’s time to close the shop,
Sari, who doesn’t go anywhere
without a bright hat on her head, can
be found at La Fenêtre Soleil. “It’s a
fashionable and relaxing place that
quiets down after lunchtime.” Sari
satisfies her sweet tooth at this stylish
café by snacking on their mango
pudding or
che
(
a Vietnamese sweet
dessert soup) and washing it all down
with a ginger tea or banana shake.
