Cowgirls in
their blues
Girls, all university students,
get in on the action. For the
last two years, the team from
Xavier University, Cagayan de
Oro were proclaimed overall
champions. This year’s Rodeo
Queen is also from the same
university. (Opening spread)
The heat is on during a two-
man carambola game where
three teams participated in one
event. It only happens when
an odd number of teams are
competing. It was intense.
The cattle was fresh and very
strong and in a span of five
minutes, knocked over the
participants so many times.
There were a couple of minor
injuries during this event.
The tipping point
A cowboy from Bohol prepares for the
bull riding event, the most popular
event at the rodeo. Each ride lasts no
more than eight seconds, and most
riders are thrown off before the three-
second mark.
