MUSIC AND MOVEMENT
THE ANNUAL BALI SPIRIT FESTIVAL
For five days in March this year, from the 20th to the 24th, it’s all about positive vibes in Bali as
the annual Bali Spirit Festival takes place in Ubud, a town in central Bali that’s widely regarded
as its spiritual and cultural center. The festival of yoga and traditional healing, dance, and world
music draws people from around the world. Musical and dance acts, wellness practitioners and
teachers, dignitaries and a growing number of followers who have made the festival a yearly
tradition will all be joining. It also comes with a series of side events, including a yogathon on
the 17th, before and after the festival proper. For the full line-up of events and performers, as
well as early-bird purchases of festival passes, visit
ARTSY AFTERNOONS
AT THE CHEDI CLUB TANAH
GAJAH, UBUD
You’ve probably seen Batuan art in its many forms around Bali. Stay at the
tranquil Chedi Club Tanah Gajah in Ubud and you’ll have a chance to learn more
about it. The 20-villa resort offers a series of classes called “Art Afternoons”,
where Balinese art specialist and illustrator Bruce Granquist talks about the
history and interesting stories behind Batuan art and its connection to Balinese
culture. It’s only fitting that the sessions are held in the Chedi Club Tanah Gajah
—
its premises feature over 100 paintings and sculptures from the collection of
Indonesian architect and interior designer Hendra Hadiprana. Granquist himself
has contributed a unique watercolor map of Ubud that shows places of interest
surrounding the Chedi. From IDR200,000 (PHP845).

NEW YEAR,
BALINESE STYLE
A majority of the population in this
Indonesian province practice Hinduism,
and although you see this everywhere on
any given day, the full pageantry of their
religion and culture reaches its peak during
the Balinese New Year called Nyepi, or
Day of Silence. It takes place on the first
new moon of March (this year it falls on
the 12th). The days leading up to Nyepi
are filled with colorful parades and rituals,
and on the 12th, everything comes to a
halt (including the airport) as the Balinese
spend the day in solemn reflection.
The newest stop in the Cebu Pacific network has a lot of
activities in store for you this March. Ready for a new adventure?
