HER NEIGHBORHOOD:
Huay
Kwang
I MOVED TO BANGKOK
from London in 2011.
During my first year, I lived in the city center
because it was close to my office. But after
realizing that there’s a great train system and
it’s very easy to commute, I moved to Huay
Kwang nearby.
Huay Kwang is a residential part of the
city, so it’s less busy than central Bangkok.
I love how easy it is to go anywhere but
still have this quiet neighborhood to return
to. I’ve started to enjoy the city at a much
slower pace.
Bangkok is known for great food and
great shopping, and living and working here
is a completely different experience. It’s
much cheaper here than in Manila, which
is important to a young professional like
myself. And with international flights that
fly directly to Bangkok, it’s a great base for
traveling abroad.
FOOD TRIP
Somboon in Bangkok is a great seafood
restaurant that’s budget-friendly; it’s also
favored by locals and visiting dignitaries
alike. I also like the sorbets at Quince
A PERFECT DAY
Spend it in Phra Phradaeng, or the “green lung of Bangkok”, for a taste of rural Thai life. This
island is smack in the center of a busy metropolis and you can get there by taking a small
boat from the Klong Toey pier. Rent a bike and explore the sights, such as a Thai temple, a
floating market, a quiet park and a fighting fish gallery. The best way to end a perfect day?
Enjoy a foot massage!
