THINK OF SUPERIOR DESIGN
,
and think of the many ways
it’s good for the soul. Beauty is, after all, a worthwhile pursuit
in itself, and it brings so much pleasure that we’re willing to
pay a high premium for truly beautiful, well-designed objects.
Now here’s one more way that design can feed our
souls. Gawad Kalinga, the groundbreaking poverty
alleviation community founded by Tony Meloto in 1995,
provides shelter for impoverished families and a livelihood
mechanism to allow them to be self-sustaining. GKonomics
International, a non-profit organization, is the community’s
initiative to promote social enterprise development, and it
launched its Designer Series with Silya — the first project of
many (or so GKI hopes) that allows designers to contribute
to social development.
