Urban
basics
Spending summer in the
city? If you’re touring a
tropical town, here’s what to
pack for those warm days
and cool evenings
1
Double-duty tops
Tops that strike a balance between
dress and casual, those that make an easy
transition from day to night, are the safest
ones to bring along. How to pick the right
ones? A simple cut made of fine fabric
does the trick.

Bright colors
While it’s tempting to travel with basic
white, shades of orange, yellow and light
green can easily brighten up your summer
wardrobe, not to mention your mood.

One trendy item
This season, it’s all about casual
embroidery and graphic patterns. Trendy
pieces instantly update a look, and many
years later, help to pinpoint your travel
photos to a specific time in your life.

Shorts for all
occasions
Traveling that puts you up close and
personal with different cultures — and
thus, different dress codes — often poses
the question: how short is short? Unless
you’re heading to the beach, where no one
will mind how little fabric you have on, it’s
best to walk on the safe side with a pair of
cargo pants that fall just below the knee.
It’s casual, it’s comfortable and it’s enough
of a cover-up for most cultural destinations.

Shop this!
This funky pair of low-crotch
harem pants that we found in KL’s
Central Market gets our vote as this
summer’s most must-have and must-
bring-wherever-you-go. It’s made
of light, breathable fabric (easy to
pack and keeps you cool) and comes
in a variety of trendy-color stripes.
Pair it up with a plain tee or tank
top and you’re ready to roam the
city. It’s available at most of Central
Market’s second-floor stalls and
costs anywhere from MYR40 to
MYR65, depending on the style and
fabric, and how well you haggle.
