terno
— literally translated as
matching — is said to have evolved
from the
traje de mestiza
, the more
elaborate version of the baro’t saya,”
explains Ocampo.
Maureen Disini, the designer behind
the one-shoulder gown that appears
on our cover, took on the appealing
challenge of putting her spin on an
oft-interpreted item of iconic attire.
“To update the terno,” she explains, “I
changed its silhouette and used new
materials — a mix of gold sequins and
jersey. I also shortened the sleeve by
two inches for a fresher look.”
